I like putting on Willie's Stardust album now an again.  It aint old country, but it's Willie doin old standards the way only he can.  It come out in the early 80's sometime, dern good stuff.

Willie's "Stardust" album was one of his better selling ones. I've been listenin' to Willie since the early 60's when he wore a turtleneck and a sportcoat. He had a crew cut back then too.

Whereas the first time I saw him he had long dirty hair with braids an dressed like a bum.  First time I saw him perform his guitar had a ragged hole punched in it.  Still sounded good.  That was either when the first Waylon an Willie came out er Poncho an Lefty, whichever one came first.

Before I retired he played the Norva. I was out walkin’ at lunch ‘n he was standin’ on the sidewalk on Monticello Ave. watchin’ the roadies unload gear. The man was filthy ‘n stunk ta high heaven.

Leo, Willie's guitar is named "Trigger" and it is a Martin. He's just played it for so long that he wore a hole it. The extra hole in  the guitar gives it a distinctive sound.

I was always surprised that after all his years in the country genre he never switched ta a steel string guitar an kept the classical style nylon.  It is a big part of his sound, but unusual in his field.  The classicals have the strings spaced much wider apart and are easier on the left hand fingers for a beginner.  They aint made ta be played with a pick, but I don't think I ever saw Willie break a string.

Del, I was talkin' about their voices. Leo, One of my wife's teacher friend went to school together with Emmie Lou. Her dad and Emmie Lou's dad were in the Marine Corps together. Her dad knew Bill Jordan also. Bill was an Ol ' Marine.
