Did I hear the mention of Dr. John??  He's my Cajun hero!

I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
I'd of said the right thing
But I must have used the wrong line
I been in the right trip
But I must have used the wrong car
My head was in a bad place
And I'm wondering what it's good for

I been the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
My head was in a place
But I'm having such a good time
I been running trying to get hung up in my mind
Got to give myself a little talking to this time

Just need a little brain salad surgery
Got to cure this insecurity
I been in the wrong place
But it must have been the right time
I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong song
I been in the right vein
But it seems like the wrong arm
I been in the right world
But it seems wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong

Slipping, dodging ,sneaking
Creeping hiding out down the street
See me life shaking with every who I meet
Refried confusion is making itself clear
Wonder which way do I go to get on out of here

I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
I'd have said the right thing
But I must have used the wrong line
I'd a took the right road
But I must have took a wrong turn
Would have made the right move
But I made it at the wrong time
I been on the right road
But I must have used the wrong car
My head was in a good place
And I wonder what it's bad for

I've been listenin' to Charlie since he came out with "The Uneasy Rider" in about 73.

Got a MMM album from I think 71 or 72, he does a cover of Hank's (Removes hat) Mansion on the Hill, has Charlie and Willie and Johnny Denver doin' instuments and background vocals on it.

Did someone say Commander Cody ;D

I'm sittin alone, Saturday night, watching the Late Late Show.
A bottle of wine, some cigarettes, I got no place to go.
Well, I saw your other man today; he was wearing my brand new shoes,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

Well, I met my old friend Bob today from up in Bowling Green;
He had the prettiest little gal that I'd ever seen.
But I couldn't hide my tears at all, cause she looked just like you,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too

Now everybody tells me there's other ways to get high.
They don't seem to understand I'm too far gone to try.
Now these lonely memories, they're all I can't lose,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

Well my dog died just yesterday and left me all alone.
The finance company dropped by today and repossessed my home.
That's just a drop in the bucket compared to losing you,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.
Got the Down to Seeds and Stems again Blues.

Never let it be said that Commander Cody can't come up with some unusual songs.

Take me back to those old Kentucky hills of Tennasee,
Let that Alabama moon shine it's light on me
Way back in those old Kentucky hills of Tennasee.

Was from "Hot Licks and Cold Steel" their truck drivin' album. ;D

I've gotta dig out my Cowboy music CD's for the trip to the Muster.  Don Edwards, Ian, Sons of the San Jaquain, ASAW, Chris, Riders in the Sky, and maybe a little R W Hampton.

Sorry Del, I ferget that ya can't listen at work.

My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln"

Have you heard this story of the Hot Rod Race
When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace?
That story is true, I'm here to say
I was drivin' that Model A

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up
That Model A Vitimix makes it look like a pup
It's got eight cylinders, uses them all
It's got overdrive, just won't stall

With a four-barrel carb and a dual exhaust
And four-eleven gears you can really get lost
It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared
The brakes are good, tires fair

Pulled out of San Pedro late one night
The moon and the stars was shinin' bright
We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill
Passing cars like they was standing still

All of a sudden in a wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed us by
I said, "Boys, that's a mark for me!"
By then the tail light was all you could see

Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind
So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind
Took my foot off the gas and man alive
I shoved it on down into overdrive

Wound it up to a hundred and ten
My speedometer said that I hit top end
My foot was glued like lead to the floor
That's all there is and there ain't no more

Now, the boys all thought I'd lost my sense
And telephone poles looked like a picket fence
They said, "Slow down! I see spots!"
The lines on the road just look like dots

Took a corner; sideswiped a truck
Crossed my fingers just for luck
My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts
The guy beside me was white as a ghost

Smoke was comin' from out of the back
When I started to gain on that Cadillac.
Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass
Don't you know by then we'd be low on gas?

We had flames comin' from out of the side
Feel the tension, Man! What a ride!
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly!"
And that Caddy pulled over and let us by

Now all of a sudden she started to knockin'
And down in the dips she started to rockin'
I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin'
The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln!

They arrested me and they put me in jail
And called my pappy to throw my bail
And he said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot ... Rod ... Lincoln!"

I like the ASAW version.  Ray Benson patterned alot of his early stuff after Commander Cody. I think Johnny Bond was the first to come out with Hot Rod Lincoln.

The Hot Rod Race was released in November, 1950. It sold 200,000 copies. It was written by George Wilson and recorded by Arkie Shibley and the Mountain Dew Boys.  Hot Rod Lincoln came out in 1955. It was written and recorded by Charlie Ryan. Johnny Bond recorded it in 1960 and Commander Cody in 1972.

There is another that fits in the middle, but can't 'member the name right now, Grandpa had it on a 45.  Tis the guy from Hot Rod Race tellin' about how bad beat-up his car was.

This is my favorite most memorable car song. Think I was just nine er ten when I first heard it. Prolly in the garage werkin' on a car with the ole man.

Tommy and Laura were lovers he wanted to give here everything
Flowers presents and most of all a wedding ring
He saw a sign for a stockcar race a thousand dollar prize it read
He couldn't get Laura on the phone so to her mother Tommy said
Tell Laura I love her tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura I may be late I've something to do that cannot wait
He drove his car to the racing ground he was the youngest driver there
The crowd roared as they started to race
Around the truck they drove at a deadly pace
No one knows what happened that day how his car overturned in flames
But as they pulled him from the twisted wreck
With his dying breath they heard him say
Tell Laura I love her tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura not to cry my love for her will never die
Now in the chapel Laura prays for her Tommy who passed away
It was just for Laura that he lived and died alone in the chapel she can hear him cry
Tell Laura I love her...
My love for her will never die

Remember right, I spent the rest of the day kindah sick. Don't have much of a tolerance fer stupid, never did. To this day if I'm listenin' ta the oldies station 'n that comes on – instant station change.
