Good one OT.  First song I taught maself ta play on the guitar.
Ever hear their version of Paint it Black?  They have an electric fiddle doin the sitar part.  I think it came from the Monteray Pop soundtrack.  That fiddle player was amazing.

Trust a youngin pushin 37 OT, they stayed around.
When I was in jr high an high school that's all I listened to while everyone else was either boppin around ta Madonna er bangin their heads ta metal.  Music was the most important thing ta me back then, and that was a huge part of the music I chose.  Listened ta mine on LP, but I'm probably one of the last ta remember AM radio being mainstream.

OT, We listened to KOMA on Fri and Sat. nights to all the Top 40.  We could pick it up loud clear up in the Texas Panhandle. The only other station that strong at night was WBAP out of Fort Worth.  Later on after I became a cop I listened to Bill Mack on his all-night radio show.

WBAP was a good one that's for sure. Bill Mack was a top DJ, he was known coast to coast.

Bill's got a show on XM satellite radio now. It's more of a talk show than playin' music.

Was exposed to a semi-lastin' sixties AM radio 'classic' this mornin' shortly after raidin' the ice box for a midnight snack makin' security rounds.

Returned to the security desk to dig inta Fritos 'n dip make my log entries 'n the talk show was playin' 'Puff the Magic Dragon' for bumper music.

It was horrible. Dark, couldn't find the remote ta shut it off.

Ok "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is one song that easily sticks in my head, but this one only took a segment on Gary Cooper movies, to be stuck since last night.

"Do Not Forsake Me:
The Ballad of High Noon"

Do not forsake me O my darlin'
On this our wedding day.
Do not forsake me O my darlin'
Wait, wait along.
The noonday train will bring Frank Miller.
If I'm a man I must be brave
And I must face that deadly killer
Or lie a coward, a craven coward,
Or lie a coward in my grave.

O to be torn 'twixt love and duty!
S'posin' I lose my fair-haired beauty!
Look at that big hand move along
Nearin' high noon.

He made a vow while in State's Prison,
Vow'd it would be my life or his and
I'm not afraid of death, but O,
What will I do if you leave me?

Do not forsake me O my darlin'
You made that promise when we wed.
Do not forsake me O my darlin'
Although you're grievin', I can't be leavin'
Until I shoot Frank Miller dead.

Wait along, wait along
Wait along
Wait along

One of the classic scenes they were showing was Coop trying to get out from under the arm of Walter Brennan (Roy Bean) after having  a little too much "hair of the brush" in "The Westerner".  All it took was the high crane shot of him walking alone down main street, and it's still being whistled aloud, and sung in my head. (Then it still sounds like Tex singing it.)

For those that like the '60's here is a link to a person that spent a lot of time on Sunset Strip (and hung with the names)

http://www.hollywoodhangover.com/part_7.htm

I used to go to a place called "Pandora's Box" which was the center of the Riot on Sunset Strip (from the b movie of the same name....I would have been there that nite but waz on a first date, and we went to a drive in movie instead.

Used to go to the Sea Witch, Gazarries, The Whiskie (a gogo) Every time I hear Buffallo Springfield doing "Nowadays Clancy Can't even Sing" and oh crap I just forgot the name....."Someone's standin over there, etc" ..."For What its Worth"

anyways the link has alot of stuff to see on the left side...it is quite a trip especially ifn ya been there..

Here are the lyrics for "for what its worth"

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Reminds me of the days..

CC, Sounds like you've achieved Senior Citizen status.  I had a Johnny Rivers "Live at Whiskey A GO GO " on 8-track. "Secret Agent Man" and "Poor Side of Town" were my favorites. I'm sure Calif. was wild back then.  I spent the 60's in the South and Southeast.
