Mr Lawdog,

I did watch Gunsmoke, did know the character Newly. But at that time did not know/was not interested in the names of actors.

So when I mentioned that I Googled him, I did read his impressive statistics, both for movie roles and guest appearances on TV shows.

I appologize if I seemed to infer that his acting carreer had been lost on me. But, like Ben Johnson, he became the role so much that his own name got lost in the shuffle.

Which is perhaps the most fitting tribute to an actor.

He happens to be a personal friend of mine that I see several times a year. He is also an accomplished artist who paints in water colors.

It is a rare man who finds his "true one thing' as Curly say in City Slickers ...

To have found two 'true things' and to live them out is exceptional.

And I truly stand in quiet respect for anyone who manages to fulfill themselves in even one way.

You are very lucky to have a friend such as Mr Taylor.....

I would watch such a movie, but it would most probably be much better with Harrison Ford or Russel Crowe in place of Costner!
To me Costner comes across as a phony But that's only my opinion!

Costners problem is that WUSSY, MONOTONE voice he has...

Costner is a homie,he is from here in Visalia.I don't support anyone that is anti 2nd ammendment..And if he is hipocrit i'll punch him in the nose! But sometimes a feller has to say or do something to get backing and a job.He seems to work a little more than Tom Selleck and the movies Costner makes just makes us wanna go out and buy more guns ;)

In the movie Bull Duram he says something like "maybe they need a good manager in Visalia" he's talkin about our ball park.

Get on the list get some funding make a movie sale more guns :) Politicians do it all the time.. ;D

Just ta poke a stick in the fire, I about died laughing when he did that Robin Hood thing and had a brittish accent in some scenes and sounded like he was from Iowa in others.  It bounced back an forth so much the headache I got stopped me from laughin.

Kevin Costner has been in several great westerns, aside from the fact that Kevin Costner was in them.

Aside from his anti-gun activities ... which is quite an aside ....

Our patron saint John Wayne never played anything but John Wayne in any movie role he did ... for instance, he was John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn .... and I believe that, had he been writing his own script, that The Shootist is exactly how he would have preferred to end his life...

Jimmy Stewart is another actor who comes to mind. Wether in Winchester 73 or It's a Wonderful Life or the Strategic Air Command, he was simply Jimmy Stewart playing a role.

For all his limitations, and I do not minimalize them, when we watch him, he is still this small-town kid from Visalia made to deal with a situation much larger than he was ever raised to be in ... I think that is what we identify with in each actor.

Jimmie Stewart and John Wayne were likable people, Costner would have a hard time gettin' a cup of coffee in one of my camps. ;)

All I was sayin was that if yer gonna do a movie that requires an accent, be consistant with it.

Leo, "A man's gotta know his limitations"!

And if he is both anti-gun and a lousy actor why should we help him make money?

So if Ted Kennedy would have saved Mary Jo it wouldn't of changed the fact he don't believe in the 2nd Amendment. Same with Costner, he'll get no more of my money.
