Marshal Deadwood

Kevin Costner has been in some  turely great westerns,,,aside from the fact that Kevin Costner is in them.

Rather watch paint dry than him 'act.'

Open Range is very good...  Costner does a creditable job ... of course he was suffering from appendicitis.

I have to say he was not as good as Thomas Hayden Church in Broken Trail

Duvall was superb in both ... Church played to that level...Costner struggled to even reach that performance , still he managed a creditable job.

I can't even sit through .. The Postman or  OMG Waterworld

I'll watch Dances with Wolves  And say I liked Siilverado in spite of Costner roll.

Deadeye Don

Sometimes low key acting is just what a part needs.  Costner is very good with such acting parts.  I loved him in Open Range and thought it was his best acting role yet.  Nothing will ever turn me off of Dancing with Wolves.  I hope he makes more westerns.   Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

The Elderly Kid

Costner's forte is romantic comedy and he should do more of it. He was superb in "Bull Durham." There hasn't been a decent RC leading man since Cary Grant. But ever since "Dances With Wolves" Costner has insisted on playing the square-jawed hero.

Marshal Deadwood

Costners name is on the 'Hollywood Watch-list' of anti-gun folks.

yep ... there's a bunch hypocrites on the list...some may surprise you.

others ...well you'd expect it  ::)

Judge Roy Bean

Mind you Robert Duval plays the same characters in all he's western film's
Texas & Miss Lilly.
  shoot"em"first hang "em" later.

Captain Lee Bishop

Judge Roy Bean is right. I'm a huge fan of Duvall's work, but he is pretty limited to his acting range.
I have no clue why the "Bash Costner bandwagon" has so many people on it. Heck, he made some real clunkers, but show me a highly-regarded actor who hasn't? I can point out some truly awful movies John Wayne was in!  :o
And as for his involvement in anti-gun movements, well, it's a free country. I like most of his work I've seen and I just don't get wrapped up in an actor's politics when it comes to watching their movies. Otherwise, I'd find a reason to not watch anything...

The Avocado Kid

I wonder if any of these ACTORS have given any thought as to what would happen IF guns were banned in the USA? How it would effect the making of films in this country? No guns....no westerns or period films of any kind.....the law is the law! No modern films with guns also! That means......out of country for the making of films with guns......The 2nd revolution would happen before things got to that point though. Dusty.

*chuckle*  THAT is why we have Tom Selleck.

I have to say, Kevin Costner is doing quite good in he's movies, the last one Open Range, he spend allot of private money to finish he's film under extras DVD intervue. I like it very much. Costner is doing real good...... here in Norway, we talk about how is gone be the next king, after Duval, mabye Kevin Costner or Tommas Hayden Church.

Robert Duval,  :D......he is a National Treasure, he's born to play and live as a Cowboy....just have to say it ::)

There are many wonderful Western-actors, but there are few that really take's the breath out of people, OK... Robert Duval, Tommas Hayden Church,Tommy Lee Jones, Timothy Scott, Rick Schrouder, D.B Sweeney, Kevin Costner, Chris Cooper and more.

You folks have left one name off your list that needs to be added. I am proud to call him a personal Friend.  Mr Buck Taylor who has had a long acting career on TV and the Movies. He's a pretty fair artist to boot.

Whaddaya mean "old"? He's only three years older than I am, so he can't be really old, can he? Can he?

Texas Lawdog

I don't know how old Sam is but Buck turns 70 this year. He doesn't look or act like someone that is 70 years old.

Sam Elliot is only 63.  That still makes him 19 years older than me.  ;D  And I use to have a crush on his wife.  None other the Etta Place from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Katherine Ross.

He ain't to old yet.

Henry4440

What a great movie would that be, with Tom Selleck, Sam Elliot, Robert Duval, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Wes Studi.

;)

Leo Tanner

Ma wifes 44 an still has a crush on Sam Elliot.
Never seen her go ga-ga over any other hollywood person.  He's got the Mojo.

Sa far as Costner goes, I think he reached his apex in "A Perfect World".  Not a western, but it was directed by Clint Eastwood.
