hammer drop on my #92

Ho pards........
  Ya got yerself one reel confoozed PUK here!!!

I load 10rds (.45LC) in my Rossi #92 and for some strange reason virtually every string of 10rds  I fire the hammer will have dropped as the action closes once !!

i.e.   I go ta pull the trigger and the hammer is already sat quite happily against the firing pin!!! I cock it and Booom off it goes!!!
I have tried to make it do it on an empty gun but it flatly refuses to do so.  I have have tried it with dummy rds and again it behaves impeccably!!
I have tried to force the hammer to close with my thumb and again it refuses to budge!!

Any ideas on this little ol problem would be appreciated

My '73 used to do that. I had to cut the notch in the hammer a little better. The angle was slightly off and when racking quickly at a match, it would drop to the safety position. For the longest time I thought I was short stroking it. You may want to have a competent gunsmith take a look at that.

I was thinking short stroke as well.  PUK, seems it only does this when you're SHOOTING a string of 10 rds., not when using dummy rds. or dry firing when you can purposely and completely work the lever.   Just a though.  If not, like MWW said.  Gunsmith.

I think I might have found the problem!!

I took her to pieces and looking at the the hammer I could see a very slight rise in the metal on one side just below where the sear rested at full cock, I have stoned this area and I think this might cure it!! It definatly sits better, and upon trying after putting her back together the trigger feels smoother and the `break` also seems a tad crisper/cleaner!!

I will be shooting her again this weekend, and I will let ya`ll know how I got on
