I bought two sets of Colt SAA grips from Hogue thinking they would fit my two USFA guns.  ( a Rodeo and a convertible sheriff model 45) USFA is supposed to be a Colt clone and all, so they should fit I would think.

They are not even close.  The pin is not located in the same place, the grips are about 1/4" too long, and I am confused.  Can anyone help with what is the reason for the lack of similarity?

Does anyone need brand new wood Colt SAA army wood Hogue grips?  I don't have a Colt.

Nothing too surprising about that.  I have Colts that Colt grips won't fit on.  I have 3rd generation guns that, when it comes to the grips, look like they were made in different factories!  No way you can interchange them from one to another.  A couple of years ago I picked up a 3rd gen. Colt Buntline that has some marginal stag grips on it.  Went to replace them with some 3rd gen. Colt wood grips that came off of another gun I have.  By the time I got done shaving those wood grips down I had enough kindling to start a fire.
As for the pin, I do believe that USFA positions theirs a little differently than Colt does.

The grips are fitted to their straps and frame - 'then' the metal gets it's finish.

'All' Colt factory grips are oversized - to allow for the fitting  individual frames and straps.

As to Hogue - no idea.

A manufacturer fits 'his' grips to the pattern piece they have on hand, so that probably accounts for the discrepancy.
