On this date in 1862, West Point graduate Sylvester Mowry's silver mine was seized by pernicious Yankees.
Mowry was also thrown into Yuma prison for having "Southern Sympathies". Upon his release, he discovered,
the "Bluebellies" had either sold or destroyed all his mining equipment.

Didn't the Lone Ranger shoot silver bullets?

There's yer culprit raight thar!  Never trust a dude wearin' a mask.
No need to blame poor, misunderstood young soldiers who are only doing what their officers tell them.

He must have been thrown in the stockade at the fort at Yuma,as the prision was not built till much later?

Is there any truth to the story I heard about how Yuma, Arizona got its name?

I heard a detachment of the 9th Cavalry was surrounded by Apache Indians and one of them West Point officers turned to a young black trooper and said "Go out there and ask them people if they want to surrender!"

The trooper came back lookin' like a porcipine shot all full of arrows.  His last words were,

"You Mu.. You Mu..."

"Wrap my Body in a Bonnie Blue Flag and bury me with my Feet in the South!"

Judge Roy,
You are correct, the territorial prison was not built until 1876, while Fort Yuma was set up in 1851.
The southern part of what is now Arizona had strong Confederate leanings.
