I never saw an episode.
Read a bunch about it, good and bad.

$70 ain't small taters, but it's cheaper than one month of cable with HBO..  so lemme know!!
Gracias,

Lucky Irish Tom

I would wait a few months, then it will be on sale at a more reasonable price, that's when I would buy it.

Sorry Tom, I shoulda been more clear.
It's not even on sale yet.. it will be available in February.
I was thinking about pre-ordering.

Gracias,

Tensleep

Don't really care what the price is, wouldn't buy it.
The few minutes that I saw of one episode at a pard's house put me off it for good.

What I've been seeing, irritates me to no end.  The language is way to rough and watching men hit women, really pisses me off. >:( I find it hard to believe that folks actually spoke, that way. ::)
Big Hext. if you have HBO On Demand, has all the episodes from the first season. ;)

See.. not communicating well..;)
I don't have HBO, that's why I didn't see the Deadwood episodes.  It would be cheaper to buy the DVD than subscribe to the digital cable and pay for all the upgrades.

Foothills Drifter

Lone Gunman

Being the cheap #%$&*#@ that I am I wouldn't pay $70. However, in a principle guided rebellion against corporate greed and with determination to reward entrepreneurship, initiative, risk taking and the black market in general I did pay $20 for a set of bootleg DVD's I found on the internet. Aw who am I kiddin? I bought'em cause I'm a cheap #%$&*#@  ;D

I thought Deadwood was an outstanding series, although admittedly an acquired taste. I, too, was surprised at the language at first, but managed to get past that and discovered what I thought was an extremely well-written series. And the fact that most of the characters are based on real individuals etc. makes it even better.

Nonetheless, don't think I'd pay $70 for the DVD. HBO has a tendency to overprice the DVDs of their series. Kinda like the inflationary "robbery" that occurred in the mining towns of the day.

I think my son also found a copy of the DVD set that LG mentioned above, but I haven't seen them yet so I don't know about their quality.

The Arapaho Kid

I dunno, Hext!  70 bucks sounds a little pricey.  You might wanta check over in Amazon.  They may have it over there for a little cheaper  ???

The Arapaho Kid

I just checked over in Amazon.  They have the first season of Deadwood up for grabs at $69.95 a copy.  There were some reviews written by customers...they seem to think it's pretty good  ???  I guess this would be an individual thing  ???  If you wanted to buy it, or not  ???

Shoshone Slim

Well, we all know that the real west was depicted by Roy Rogers ::).  Everyone said please and thnak you and extended their pinkies when they sipped their tea. ::) ::)

Hext, I thought it was an excellent show. Very well written and acted. But, I wouldn't pay $70 bucks for dvd's of the first season.  I'd split it with a couple other folks and burn myself a copy. ;)

Sgt Buck

I watched a few minutes of one episode.  It appeared that the writers intent was to insert the "F" word in every line of dialog.  I'm not a prude and my language gets a little course at times, but I saw no point in it and after a few minutes found it to be distracting from the story line (if there was one) and annoying.  So, I said this is F$@%?$&  S#(+!  and changed the channel!

Cheyenne

Dang son.....I have the first season on VHS....heck I'd "loan" you them!  (Won't say I'd make a 'copy' for you so's all the busy bodies what that jumped me once afore don't get their knickers in a knot!)
Well..........Bye!

Big Hext Finnigan

That'd be good.  I have gotten spoiled by DVD, but my VHS player still works.  Are you coming to the match this Saturday?

Regarding the language...
I recently began working in a manufacturing environment, with both men and women.. and no stranger to coarse language, I have been shocked  :o at the gutter words being used in common conversation by all the workers there, even a good number of the supervisors.  "Clean" only applies to the dust part of the environment!  I espect that the language in Deadwood may been coarse at a level that is indeed shocking..  I know that I have read diaries and letters from the middle ages that are incredibly vulgar.

Adios,

Joyce (AnnieLee)

I'll probably buy it. My sentiments are much like those Irish Dave posted. The language shocked me at first, but when I got over that, I found it to be a very well written story with excellent characterisation.

It sure isn't all frills and ruffles.

$70 seems a little steep for a TV show.  I'd wait a bit and get it when the price comes back down to normal.  The language never bothered me, BTW.

Why pay that much for half a dozen discs to shoot at, when for the same price I could buy 3 or 4 cases of clay pigeons? ;D
