« on: May 26, 2007, 08:55:21 PM »
C'mon.  We all have our favorite cowboy songs.  Post me a playlist of your favorites.  I don't have near enough music... so I need your help.

For instance:

Comanche         Johnny Horton
Ringo                Lorne Green
Big Iron             Marty Robbins
Beer for my Horses  Toby Keith
Faster Gun        Royal Wade Kimes
Dust on My Saddle          Seals and Croft
The FIghting Tigers of Ireland        Jed Markum
I Ain't Marching Anymore          4 to the Bar
The Devil's Right Hand           Steve Earle
Black HOrse and Cherry Tree            KT Tunstall

Long days and pleasant nights,
Will

You may want to check out David John & the Comstock Cowboys.  They have most of their CDs on Amazon.com.  Dave has written and recorded many good original Cowboy songs, including “Comanche” (about Captain Miles Keogh’s horse, the only survivor of the Custer massacre).  Some of his stuff is Bluegrass, but the main emphasis is on Cowboy music.  They perform most weekends in Virginia City NV, at the Bucket of Blood Saloon.  Not only do they dress in period attire, and carry, but so do most of the patrons that come to see them. (Only in Nevada!)

The Goodnight-Loving Trail - Utah Phillips

Apache - Jorgen Ingman (okay, it's instrumental, not a song, but a fine piece of music)

Right now I'm enjoying the heck out of the album "Gunfight At OK Corral" sung by Johnny Western.

Favorites from the album are:

Ghost Riders In the Sky
Gunfight At OK Corral
Ballad Of Boot Hill
Johnny Yuma, The Rebel
Ballad Of Paladin
The Lillies Grow High
Cheyenne

The rest are great songs as well.

All 3 of the Marty Robbins Columbia Alblums "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, and Return of the Gunfighter."  Not to mention  records by Gene Audry, Roy Rogers, and the Sons of the Pioneers.

We were at the Amarillo Tx Ranch Rodeo, and Marshal and I got to hear a young artist called Kevin Davis.
His only CD out is called "This Cowboy's  Heart"..and every song tells wonderful stories about the days of cattle roundups,
and the cowboy way.

The Rawhide theme as well as the orginal soundtrack from the motion picture "High Noon" were sung by Frankie Lane
If you belong to any of the record clubs you may be able to hear the orginal songs by the orginal artists.
