Is there any reason NOT to fire .45 Schofield rounds through the .45 Colt New Vaquero?  I just took possession of a 4-3/4 in model last Saturday and I noticed that the ammo listed in the owner's manual specifies only .45 Colt.  I'm wondering if .45 Schofield use will void the warranty.

Other than the usual carbon ring caused by the shorter cases, no. there were some earlier ones that had some problems with the larger diameter of the case heads. Mine, which is in the early 800's, did not....................Buck 8) ;)

Warranty issues are tricky.  I would call Ruger and ask them about using 45 Schofield before firing them through your Vaquero.  I cant imagine it would have any impact on the warranty.  Original colts were used with 45 colt and 45 Schofield ammo.  I am thinking of the 45 Colt SAAs used for the military.  They were originally used with 45 colt,  but then the military started fielding 45 Schofield due to the less weight to carry the ammo plus cost I would imagine.  Better to be safe than sorry.  Ruger will be able to answer your question.  You might actually have to talk to a tech person at Ruger and NOT simply whoever answers the phone.   Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

I'd betcha that Ruger will say "no" for warantee reasons.  But heck, maybe not.  ???
Do them big .45 S&W rims fit in the cylinder okay?

I had no trouble with Ruger when I reported the recent mishap I had with my brand new Ruger New Model Blackhawk see thread concerning problems with Rugers. So I don't think you'll have trouble getting an answer from them I'd contact Coustomer Service.

Thanks for the replies, guys.  You've pointed me in the right direction.   ;)

BTW, Gregg, I have tried loading 6 Schofield rounds in the Vaquero and they seem to fit okay.

Good question.  I don't have a Marlin, so I can't answer it, though.

I'm very new to this sport - haven't shot anything yet.  Besides the Vaquero, I have a '58 Remington with 5-1/2" barrel & a Kirst Konverter, but as yet I have no long guns I could use.  I've got a AH Fox 12ga double (which I don't think is SASS legal) and a 30-30 '94 Winchester (which probably isn't SASS legal either).  I'm moving slowly in getting into the game, but any suggestions are welcome.

I recollect the Fox-AH is a SxS, kinda like the Fox-B, ain't it?
So It oughta be SASS legal.  Not an O/U, is it?

Some newer SASS fellers I've talked to have heard some SASS-SxS-Myths & get real worried 'bout their guns>>>>
*  Ya don't need exposed hammers for most categories.
*  Single triggers are usually fine.
*  10,12,16, 20 gages are all fine.
*  Ya CAN shoot a single shot, but have to do a lot of loadin'.
*  Ya will have to disable any SxS ejectors, but NOT extractors.
*  Lead shot only---No steel.
*  It ain't real hard to load BP in shotshell ammo (Hell, I've even done it).  ::)

Sorry, your Win M-1894 in .30 WCF can only be used in some side matches.  You'll need a CF revolver caliber lever or pump rifle.  Check out the SASS Handbook for good info.

Come to a match with an open mind, all the gear ya got & introduce yourself.  I'll wager some Pards will offer you some guns to use for the day.

Your RATS Pard,

My Fox is a SxS 12ga and was one of my dad's prized possessions.  He always felt that the Fox was as good as a Parker.  I'd be a little reluctant to risk using the Fox, since I've been offered a good deal of money for it if I decide to get rid of it (which I'm not planning to do BTW).  I find it too pretty to use very often.

I have read the rules, which is why I knew my model 94 Winchester wasn't legal except for the side matches you mentioned.  Right now, I've got some back problems which I'll have to get fixed so I can stand up for more than a few minutes.  As soon as I get that corrected, I'll be more in a mood to seek out a shoot locally.  I believe there's something going on nearby nearly every weekend.
