Well it looks like I won this here auction, http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=71792217, I'll get some pics up once I get it. I am planning on using light BP loads for CAS, I would think a light 10 gauge load will still smoke plenty and knock down any targets I happen to come across! Anyone have any specific recommendations on this shotgun prior to shooting (I know that's more a gunsmithing question but you fellers are more likely to go out and buy an old shotgun then most.) I have started searching the old posts for loading info so I won't ask for that quite yet. Man I'm on a roll now, a Henry and a 10 ga scattergun, now all need to shoot are two sixguns! ;D
Thanks,
Mild Myles

Somehow or other, light loads and 10 ga just don't seem to go together.

All I did was name it 'n get it started. The posse made it great. A debt I can never repay. Thank you, mi amigos.

The standard load in 19th century shotshells was only 1 1/4 oz anyway.

A light load in a 10 ga. is a normal-to-heavy 12 ga. load!  ;D

DD,
As good as that offer it I think I'll hold off for now ;). I'm sure by the time I'm done it would be cheaper to sell it now but luckily I don't measure fun in how much it costs! Kind a like that movie, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man :"You just spent twelve dollars and didn't hit a darn thing!" (cleaned up for the kiddies)
Now ya'll are getting to see where the name "Mild" comes from... Just wait until I show up with a pair of Dragoons bouncing off my shins (Arcey can tell you I'm all of 5'4" :D.)

Sharps54,

Congrats!

My favorite 10 ga 2-7/8" load is 4-1/4 drams of BP and 1-1/4 oz of shot. You will know when you pull the trigger but the targets will never know what hit them. ;D

Iam partial to Circle Fly wads and a nice roll crimp. Its the nostalgia thing.

About the only commercial offering for BP (Swiss no less) 10 gauge 2-7/8 are the folks at Republic Metallic.
www.republicmetallic.com

If you are a sadist they even offer a 5 dram bismuth load for waterfowl

Have fun!

Welcome to the T-Rex Club. :o

;D :D ;D

Heck, I've been there a while with rifles (I've got a 470 Capstick being built now, basically it's the .375 H&H case blown straight) and revolvers (there may be bigger six-guns then my .357-44 Bain and Davis Blackhawk but not many louder!) but this will be my first 10 ga. Like I say out of respect for the old girl I won't shoot anything near "hot" loads but she'll still be fun!

For lower pressures, think "1F" powder.

Thanks, I may end up doing that but I was planning on just shooting 2F though all my BP guns to make it simple. Of course the best laid plans....

I'll add $75 to DD's offer, and then you can send it to me (plus shipping of course).
