Has anyone seen a Hege 1863, 1875, or 1890 Remington? I've heard they're better than Ubertis. But there doesn't seem to be a U.S. importer. :(

Fox Creek Kid

They are indeed the same guns: Uberti.  ;)

Long Johns Wolf

As Fox Creek Kid pointed out they are from the same manufacturers Uberti or Armi Sport but get additional QC in Italy and Germany.
They also have exclusive series like the "One of a Thousand" Henry (Uberti), selected production runs of the 1866 and 1873 Wichester muskets (Uberti), Bill McDonald M 1892 (Armi Sport) to mention a few.

I have read that Hege installs target barrels on the 1863 Remington for use in BP competition.

Long Johns Wolf

Bishop Creek: yes, that is true. They have a smith that is transforming run of the mill Remmie 1858s into race guns for bulls eye competition...at a price. Incidentally, they offer the same tuning service for R&Ss.

Lon Johns Wolf, I was noticing the pictures of you 1875 Remington ser # 73 over on the SCORRS website and was wondering how it is marked. Is it a Hege gun? I've got its twin over here in the states but #222 (found it unfired) and it was imported by Replica Arms before they were bought by Navy Arms. And the post front site you went with matches mine.

Fox Creek Kid

NO!!! Don't make him drag out those photos again as I cry with envy every time I see it!!  :'(  ;)

Bishop Creek

I have a poor man's version of a Hege, the Pietta "Shooters" revolver. I paid $275 for it 10 years ago during a Cabelas closeout sale, but Dixie Gun Works is now asking $700 for them. With gain twist rifling, it is very accurate.

Pathfinder: as suggested by our good pard Fox Creek Kid I am neither posting the old nor new pics of my early production Uberti Remmie 75. I am pleased to learn that there are a couple of these old warhorses still around. Yes, #73 was imported and sold back then by HEGE because til the early 2000s HEGE was the exclusive importer/distributor of Uberti in Germany.
Which caliber is your #222? .45 Colt, .44-40 or .357 Mag?
Mine is .45 Colt and is giving me trouble even with very light CAS nitro loads: the spring that keeps the cylinder pin in place got weak. So, during recoil the cylinder pins moves forward which eventually disables the pistol. This usually happens during or after the 2nd string of 5 rounds fired. Could not locate a replacement spring at Uberti's or VTI. Gave her to a smith who pretends to be able to make a replacement spring. I will report in due time.

The Pathfinder

Long Johns Wolf, mine is in .45 and as it came with the original box and hang tag I haven't brought myself to fire it yet. As you can see in another post I have 4 other Remingtons available to me that are all in 44-40, so they are what I shoot. As all my others have the later cross-pin I haven't had any experience with the durability of the original spring. Would not surprise me tho that that was what prompted the changover in design. I found another Replica Arms Remington just over a thousand numbers higher that has the cross-pin so obviously they didn't make that many of the original design. Enjoy that old warhorse, the more I think about it the more I'm tempted to see how mine does.

Fox Creek Kid

Pathfinder, a few years back we had a thread on the early Uberti '75 Remmies with the correct cylinder retention method (and shorter cylinder) and we deduced from a few posters with early guns that Uberti changed to the cross pin somewhere circa. serial # 900 if I remember correctly. All were Replica Arms imports here in the USA.

The Pathfinder

FCK, I was here for that and remembered it was somewhere around the #1000 or lower but couldn't remember just where. Found a Replica Arms on Gunbroker the other day in the 1200 range and that brought it back to mind. While going thru the picture gallery over at SCORRS I saw again Long Johns Wolf's beautiful #73 and when this topic came up so close to all that I figured I see if any of the early guns went anywhere other than Replica. Seems like at least Hege got into the show early on as well. Actually the earlier conversation put me in touch with another gentleman who has the consecutive number to mine. The first thing we both wanted to know was if the other gun was for sale. ;D Can't have too many Remmies, don't ya' know. Ride easy, Pards, as our ol' friend Trailrider says.
