Dusty,
Sure is! I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions once I get it and start shooting it. I know a local fella that shoots one so he should be able to help me out with most of them. Now to pick up some C&B sixguns and a single shot shotgun to go with it....

Thanks Sod Buster,
I emailed "SGT Billy", your AWOL Henry shooter from No. VA, and he will be tied up until at least June, maybe after that he'll come out to a match.

Why a single shot shotgun?  But I think a pait of brass frame Spiller and Burr C&Bs would go just dandy with that Henry.

Good for you!  We need more C&B shooters at our matches.

I guess after spending all my hard earned money on a Henry after the war all I would be able to afford would be a single shot scattergun! I don't know, probably because I watched "The Long Riders" not too long ago and have that single shot in my mind. Just seems like a single barrel 10 Gauge loaded with BP would be pretty neat, probably enough "style" points to make up for any time lost! ;D Of course a single shot 12 or 20 is easier to find and still would make plenty of smoke... Right now I have a SXS 20 but I'm always scheming to find guns that complement each other.

As for the brass frame S&Bs that would look neat, not sure about the brass frames for a match revolver though, I'll probably just go with a pair of 1860 Armys or Remington NMAs.

Yep, I'm lucky my Yankee blood (and accent ;)) keep me from doing a Confederate or former Confederate impression or I would be mighty tempted to take Dusty's suggestion about the Spiller and Burr revolvers, they would look neat with a Henry! As it is when I get a pair of C&B they will probably be Colt or Remington copies.

Myles:
There are lots of great deals on vintage sxs 12 gauge hammer shotguns out there.  Plenty with good armory steel, instead of damascus.  And they look real close to what a double would have been around 1870.
Dusty

Here is a seller who I bought a great vintage hammer gun from.  Go to Gunbroker.com.  Click For Buyers.  Check Seller Feedback under antlermount.  Good guy to do business with.

Looks like you are bidding on a corker!!  Good luck.  That critter will make quite an impression on the line.

Well the first one I bid on had a higher reserve then I bid so we'll see how the second one does. I am watching a few others. There is no rush as I have a shotgun on "long tern loan" from a buddy but if I am going to shot BP out of a shotgun it might as well be a 10 Ga! This might be the wrong forum to ask but does anyone know when the NEF style single shot shotgun locks came into being? By that I mean the "push button" opening instead of a lever like a SXS or OU. I would be plenty happy with a single shot 10 Ga. but I don't think the "push button" locks are "historically" correct for SASS shooting.
Thanks,
Mild Myles

Dusty Morningwood,
Well I got a scattergun off that feller on GunBroker, http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=71792217, hopefully the bores will clean up OK, you said he was a straight shooter when you dealt with him. I won't be putting anythng but fairly light BP loads through it, I don't guess I will encounter many targets in CAS that a 10 ga "target load" ;) can't handle....

Arcey

Now dog gone if she don't look real pretty in the images.  'Specially #6.  Congrats.

Sure do hope yer gonna let me handle it some day fer an inspection.  Just fer a minute er two.

Yep, that's the one I was talkin' about!  Oh man, that thing is going to spout some smoke and flame.  Post pics!!  I might also suggest that you invest in some HD 10 ga brass from Rocky Mountain Cartridge in Cody, WY.  WY, you ask?  :D  The thick walled cases are made from solid bar stock.  Kinda like sleeving the chamber and he can custom bore them to use 12 ga components.

sharps54

Arcey,
Heck once I am set up and loading you can shoot it until you get tired or I run out of ammo! It's a shame someone cut the barrels down but that is probably the only reason I could afford it.

Dusty,
Thanks for the suggestion, I will look in to that, have you done this in the past? I was thinking about tracking down brass shells so I didn't have to worry about melting the plastic ones :o! I don't plan on putting any heavy loads through this old gal but if shotguns are like rifles the larger bore ought to let me do the same thing as a 12 gauge with less pressure, I recon even a light load should put out plenty of smoke and fire! We'll task Arcey with taking some photos to post ;).
