Well, I thought it was good news but,

SIR WILLIAM

There is a NEW Redesigned retro Ruger Vaquero coming!!  The great news is that it uses the XR3 Colt sized gripframe.  The better news is that they have a reversible pawl to allow for faster and easier loading.  The BAD part?  KEYED INTERNAL LOCKS!

You're damn right I'll risk it. They're breakin the law.

Might make them legal for sale in a few states that they couldn't sell in before, like Mass. and Maryland.........Buck 8) ::) ;D
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

With only offering 45 and 357 at first, maybe the bugs will get worked out of them before they make me a set of 44-40s! I would bet they are gonna be a mad sale when turned loose in December.

SIR WILLIAM

I am not seeing any indications that they will be chambered in 44 anything.  I believe Ruger felt the 44s just did not sell well.  Why make 44s that nobody buys?

Well, let's see. The news of these puppies coming out is less than 3 days old, so maybe we could hold back on the negative comments until somebody has actually handled one?

Rusty Marlin, who's a line engineer at Ruger, just posted over on the SASS Wire that the internal lock is inconspicuous. You have to remove one of the grip panels to access it. He says they didn't want to impact the exterior appearance. I'm thinking you unlock them once and then throw away the key.

The cylinder is only strong enough for SAAMI Spec 45Colt loads, so you'll probably never see one chambered in 44MAG. That's why they're going to retain the full sized Vaquero for 44Mag. As to whether they'll chamber it for the other 44 calibers, only time and demand will tell.

I know I'm gonna skedaddle right down to my local dealer because I've been planning on buying a pair of pistols for Mrs Johnson, and this puts a whole new light on the situation. Honey, do you want the pretty blue ones or the shiny ones? And do you like the little stubby barrels or the slightly longer ones?
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

That's OK by me, but how long do you think it will be before someone sets off a hand grenade in one, sues the company, saying well I could shoot that load in my other one.

Not very long. But nothing is preventing the same idiot from doing the same thing in a Colt or a clone. Ruger is very well versed in 'gun law', having come up with the 'New Model' Blackhawks with transfer bars back in the 1970's as a result of lawsuits. There is a written statement that comes with every Ruger that includes a disclaimer about using anything other than standard factory ammo. I'm sure they've covered their butt. Idiots who try hot loads in guns not designed for them only have their own selves to blame.

There's a guy I used to buy bullets from near here who keeps 1/2 of a Colt cylinder on his sales counter. Story is a guy came in one day and bought some bullets and declared that he was going to load some 45 Colt up to 44Mag specs. The bullet seller made him promise to bring the broken parts when he blew up the gun.

Ya know, I'd consider one if they made it in .44 Spcl.  ;D

I was looking at their information on the web.  Sure would like to have a pair in .45 with the 7 1/2" barrels.  Wonder if Santy has processed my Christmas list yet! ;D ;)

I'm not a Ruger fan because I don't like transfer bars, but if these are more like a Colt in size and appearance, all I can say is, "It's about time". This could be a good answer for many shooters. My Springfield 1911 has a key lock. It doesn't do anything unless I put the key in the hole and turn it. If the Ruger has one under a grip, so what? It's a non-issue for appearance and, as pointed out, makes it possible for pards in certain states to get 'em. I look forward to seeing one.
