Are you talking about somehow discoloring the metal?
I've had mine in holsters with no ill effects if that's what you mean.
Are you refering to scratching them? Well, that's just going to happen with use, would happen if they were blued instead. You either use them or you don't. It's like an antique car, either let it run and accept that there will be some wear, or let it sit and never move and stay pretty. Only you can decide which option you want...

Holster it.....but just dont store it in the holster.  No gun should be stored in leather.  Otherwise dont fret about it.  Stainless is tough.   Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

Ammunition should definitely not be stored in leather cartridge loops for more than when you are going shooting or hunting.  It is best not to store guns, even stainless steel guns, in leather holsters for more than a day or so, especially in damp climates, or if the leather got wet.  And, yes, your stainless Vaquero will probably pick up a few scratches here and there.  But you will pick up much more discoloration from powder residue when you fire the gun than from any holster in which you put the gun. Clean the gun after shooting (but don't kill it with kindness).

Unless you are going to put the gun away as an investment, shoot it, holster it, and don't worry about it!
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Don't be askeered o puttin them shiny hoglegs in yer holsters! SS, like the other Pards said, is pretty durable...much more so than their CCH/blued counterparts. The really neat thing about SS is ifn ya do git a scratch or two ya can polish em up pretty quick with a $40 polishing/grinding wheel.

Light abrasions from holster wear can be totally removed with a soft cloth and a tube of jewelry polish.

most of these Pards, are Desparados and don't know what "buckin' bales" is.  If your planning on shooting with any of the SASS or NCows groups you'll be needin holsters.   Sometimes at the matches you can get good deals on ones some of us older fellas seem to out grow.  It streches your toy money that way.  Get your parents to take you to a local club match and introduce yerself.  The pards that shoot can get you pointed the right way.

BTW we could use an extra hand on the Hay wagon

We knows what buckin' bales is here in Nebrasky!!!!   :o
Usually 3 cuttin's of alfalfa & then prairie hay.
We usually roll up the slough hay & waterways, though.

Good luck on savin' up fer a nice holster.   ;D
