Well, I finally am finished.  Sling swivels mounted, correct sling with hook from S&S, and some period 44 Henry boxes.  Added to the picture are some original .44 Henry rimfire rounds.

I'll Email DW a non resized pic he can replace it with

You know, the only times I have sold Henries have been to switch model (finish) or caliber etc. (with exception of a financial crisis awhile back). Through the 12 years of writing, I have gotten Henries from EMF, Cimarron, Taylor's, and Uberti to write about.

I felt so remorseful when I shipped off my henry this time, though, it was unbelieveable!  In many ways it took the joy out of the Century Limited.  It's like loosing your favorite female hound when she gives birth to a litter of puppies.  You love the pups, but feel terrible about loosing the bitch (in the dog meaning).

Yesterday evening I was on my back deck plinking with both the Century Limited and the Henry.  I hit everything with the Henry that I hit with the Marlin from 100 yards in.  Both are 44-40; and the Marlin is slicker, really prettier (engraved with real bone case hardening), and lighter than the Henry.  Trouble is, I know I will always choose the Henry over the Century Limited to use at a CAS match, as well as re-enacting where the Marlin is inappropriate.

In short, the Century Limited is "Irrelevant!"  It's too nice to use as a loaner at a match (last time I did that with a rifle, the shooter buggered up the crown).  I generally only plink with the guns I shoot at matches (except my 5.56mm and 9mm WTSHTF guns).  Maybe I'll sell the Ltd. and get a couple more AR lowers.  I have three uppers and one lower.

I love the wood.  That is the prettiest thing on it.  THe color cas hardening is better on one side than the other, but not as nice as Driftwood Johnsons color casen on his iron frame Henry.  It is just typical of the chemical process used now.  I would love to send the recievcer and lever to Doug Turnbull and have him bone case harden it, but that would cost mucho deinero.  Actually, if I use it re-enacting, I may have to blue the receiver, as original iron frame Henry rifles did not have color case recievers, just blued.  I don't want to upset the stich counters <g>! ;D

Great job on the sling swivels! It is just like mine except mine is 45lc. I would like to add sling swivels to mine but I am  not enough  of a metal worker to try it.  What do you think a good gunsmith would charge  fot this?

Howdy,

I don't know.  You have to be careful to make sure you don't drill into the mag tube with the 1/8" drill.  Actually you center in the trough betweeen barrel and mag tube, at an ever so slight angle towrds the barrel.  The tapping must be done in two stages.  First the starting tap, then a finish tap, and the holes have to be shallow.  That part is a PAIN IN THE B_TT!  The stock inleting wasn't too bad.

You could do the stock, and probably a gunsmith would charge $50-75.  For the front sling "U" screws, the tap is a metric M4 (4mm) with a .07 pitch and an 1/8th inch drill.

Well, I decided the Marlin is irrelevant.  I am selling it in the classifieds to raise some money for another original Spencer!
