The Lottery was suposed to divert some of the funds collected to the public school systems in Texas, I don't think that much of it has ever reached the schools.

That's not the story here.  The school system gets the money alright.  The only hitch is that they lost the money coming out of the "general" funds. ::) ::)

If ya get a state lottery, find yer convenience stores that ain't gonna play.

Maddenin' when ya wanna get in 'n out quick for some ice cold beer, even willin' ta pay more for it 'n ya get stuck behind some fool ponderin' which scratch off ta buy 'n droolin' on the counter. Or the office runner, who is otherwise normal, makin' the office pool bets then standin' in the way while he/she cross checks the tickets for accuracy.

I've put my intended purchases on the counter 'n walked out more'n once. Go outtah my way to avoid places that participate.

Was jus now lookin at this thread fer the first time an had ta laugh.  What's worse than the guy decidin on what ticket ta buy is the lady who takes her time choosin ten of em or so an starts scratchin em right there at the counter.  Don wanna lose her place in line in case she wins big.  I've tried hummin er whistlin real loud behind em, but durrin that time they think there the only person in the store.

Our Indian casinos advertise as "Nevada style action".  Got cards, craps an the whole bit.  They make a ton a money.  Haven't been ta one but talked ta a lot of people who have an they say it's better than Reno, restuaunts an all.  Wish I could open one but there aint no Irish reservations that I know of ;D

The states should not be sanctioning gambling. Most of the money the state gets from it goes to law enforcement and judicial system because of the increased crime. Here we get a lottery credit on our real estate tax which doesn't add up to much. But, it is a way fer the state to tell the people gambling helps them.  >:( Now, the Indian gambling. What I have seen of the reservations, it has not help them to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.  ::)

Rant off.

They got casios in Louisana and Oklahoma. Folks can't get there fast enough to pour their money into the coffers of the casinos.

Missouri has the river boat casinos.  Gambling's only legal if it's floating.  I have no idea what the rational behind that concept is ???
They give ya a card to put inta a machine that makes sure you don't lose more than 500 bucks in 3 hours.  If they catch ya passin slot tokens to a buddy who's run his limit, it's a big deal--they'll run ya outta there quicker than ya can blink.

I've got a cousin that is the games machine mananger over in Oklahoma, at a Cherokee Casino,  they have 450 machines,  horse race 45 or 50 days a year and have the biggest dance floor in the Tulsa Area,  last year they averaged over a million a day with all the income from everything and that's just that one Casino.  Multiply that times all the Casino's in Oklahoma,  where's all that money coming from  :o
he says he has people come in everyday that he's got to know, says several of the older ladies and men  have told him they have a $2500 to $5000 a day limit on how much they can lose.  :o :o  and he says they are there every day of the week, every day of the year.  It's just hard for me to imigine that.  and then some people have'nt got two coins to rub together, that come every Tuesday, on that day the Casino gives you $ 5  for coming in, says they'll lose that $5  have em a free coke or coffe and they are on there way to the next closest Casino to get the $5 there. says he knows several that make the rounds every Tuesday and go to 4 Casino's

We've some sort of off-track bettin' thing here. Don't know how it werks, never been in one. Don't recall talkin' ta anyone that has 'n they ain't new. Mebbe Rooster knows.

Now, if folks had ta go ta those ta play the lottery I wouldn't care. I just want 'em outta folks way when they're tryin' ta conduct bidness. The player antics Leo described earlier are the same here, it's universal 'n aggravatin'.

they have simlicast over at the Casino by Ft. Smith,  one room all to itself with maybe a dozen big screen TV sets,  they got racing from all over the world. you wanta bet on a race in Austrilia, just put your money down,  they got running horses, trotting horses  and it seems like they have a race going or getting ready to go just ever little bit, full days of racing 24 hours a day.  you bet just like you do at the track.

Lone Star Park is about a mile from my house. You can place bets on races at the track.  They also have OTB but I don't know if it's open 24/7.

Now they are showing close ups of Big Brown''s right rear hoof taken about 200 yds into the race.  It shows a sprung shoe, they say it happened when he crosses in front of another horse and the horse clipped that hoof.  That could have thrown his stride off enough to make the jockey think something was wrong.  Big Brown refused to comment!  ;D
