Howdy i think i know why Michael Landon never wore a vest. its because he does not like vests. i have seen him in little house on the prarie i have seen him on rifleman
and highway to heaven  and bonanza and others. and i have never seen him wear vest.

Maybe, but what we really need to know is what a US Marshall who in Kansas would have been a officer of the Federal Court in Topeka and would have stayed around there and his office was doing out in Dodge City sticking his nose in everything that was not a US Marshall's bussiness? ??? ::)  All his job was to make sure Federal taxes were paid and most of that involed illeagal liquor.  The only place they had any right to enforce other laws was the Indian Territory.

Besides that how did the Cartwright get so much land?  They were not allowed to claim over 160 acres under the Pre-emption Act and they had to pay $1.50 an acre for it, if they all 4 would have made such a claim the house would have hat to sit on the corners to be leagal and that would still only be a section, 640 acres.  The homestead act would have allowed another 160 apiece but would not come for several more years.  a Timber Claim of 160 aces for planting 40 acres of trees was not valid in that region because they had trees.  so I think they "owned all that land illeagally" and kept it with all their guns and hired hands. ;D

Of course Little Joe became the black sheep of the family and became a nester on Little House, bet his dad the big cattleman disowned him. ;D

Bonanza
We chased lady luck, 'til we finally struck Bonanza.
With a gun and a rope and a hat full of hope, planted a family tree.  We got hold of a pot of gold, Bonanza.
With a horse and a saddle, and a range full of cattle, how rich can a fellow be?

On this land we put our brand, Cartwright is the name, fortune smiled, the day we filed the Ponderosa claim.
Here in the West, we're livin' the best, Bonanza, if anyone fights any one of us, he's go a fight with me, Bonanza.

Hoss and Joe and Adam know every rock and pine, no one works, fights, or eats, like those boys of mine.  Here we stand in the middle of a grand Bonanza.
With a gun and a rope and a hatful of hope, we planted our family tree, we got hold of a potful of gold, Bonanza.

With a houseful of friends where the rainbow ends, how rich can a fellow be?
On this land we put our brand, Cartwright is the name, fortune smiled, the day we filed the Ponderosa claim.  Here in the west we're livin' the best Bonanza.

With the friendliest, fightingist, loving band, that ever set foot in the promised land, and we're happier than them all.
That's why we call it Bonanza...Bonanza...Bonanza...
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

I have that version from the pilot show on a CD at work. ;D

Also note claim in the song is in the singular form, if all 4 would have filed Pre-Emption Claims it would have had to be in the plural. ;D

He played in over fifty different things up until 2005.  Mainly roles in single episodes of TV series.

Oh heavens, I hate to weigh in after the inteligent explanations, but my understanding is the it refers to what a pain in the neck Huck Finn was:

"I'm your worst nightmare" "I'm your pain in the neck"

I've even confused myself now. I'm my own Huckleberry.
