I'm from Saline County, Missouri.  Historically, boys from our area were fierce fighters, crack shot, and fought in several notable campaigns of the wars of the early to mid 19th century.  I'll post more info as I get it.  This post is more of a "Watch this space" sort of thing.  THe family and I go to various historical sites on the weekends and I'll transfer info as I get it.

Feel free to add anything on the state of Missouri or the men (and women) from here.

I say thankya.

That's Sam Hildebrand, Pard.  One of the most notorious of Missouri's pistoleros.  He probably killt more men with them two Colts than this next fella did with his.

I put some links in there.  Go back and click on them pics.

Heh.  Bloody Bill Anderson.  I live like 35 minutes from Richmond.  Where they caught up with Bloody Bill.  I've been lax about posting the histories I promised.  We got flooded around here and I've been helping out, getting the kids through the end of the school year, etc.  I've got some info on Waverly, MO (this little town I live in) as well as alot of stuff on the Battle of Wilson's Creek.  General Jo Shelby lived here at one point as well... so the local ladies clubs have more than a man could want to know about Gen. Shelby and the Iron Brigade... Sterling Price, etc.  Give me until SUnday and I'll start with the local history.

Long days and pleasant nights,

Will

Hey!  Hear'd tell there was gonna be a weddin' in Waverly, Missouri later this spring.  A re-enactment of Joe Shelby's wediing.  150th Anniversary or some such.  Is anybody / everybody invited?  I'd sure like to come to that shindig.  I hear'd that first one was a good one.  Riverboat Ride and All.

These next two Missourians weren't slouches with pistolas neither!

The lady Belle Starr, sometime Paramour of Another Missourian, rode with the two brothers mentioned afore.  I believe her sometime boyfriend is buried here where I call home. Lee's Summit

Fox Creek Kid

Now for the $64,000 question: who was the most successful bandit from Missouri in the Old West?

Ozark Iron John

That's gotta be my old Pap.

The original Ozark Iron John.

Them stories about his demise in a train wreck / robbery gone awry ....

are false.  He got away with all that gold and we've been mintin' our own coins ever since!

LOL!

Nope, not gone under yet ;D  Just had my internet time limited and way tooooo busy.   Most of them Younger boys are buried here in Lee's Summit.  I would say they were successful too, but us Missourians knows they was innocent.    :o

Fox Creek Kid

Keep guessing boys. Here's a clue:  Prairie Home, Missouri.  ;)

Maybe you're thinkin' it was Mr. Jay Gould. President of the Missouri Pacific Railway, Company.  He most certainly got richer'n God robbing the people of Missouri, but you've failed to see the humor in my post.  It was a lot-o-Gould's gold, and nobody know's about it except us kids.

ROTFL!
