Im considering an 1862 Pocket Police with a 5 1/2 barrel. Do any of you have one,,,and what do you think of it as compared so say,,,an 1861 Navy ? I was intersted in the smaller frame for a 'backup' carry type and would like totally honest,,good or bad...opinions.

Thanks,

Well, I found my 62 PP to be so sleek, so petite, so lithe, and downright racy that I couldn't help but name 'er "Sweet Pea".   Shot high; filed and squared the notch a bit: still shot a bit high at 45 feet, but I decided to accept it as the prerogative of a high-spirited lady, and will interfere no more.  The half-fluted cylinder is part of the charm.

The 62s are smaller and daintier in person than one would think from photographs; pairing with the 61 is a natural, for they look like siblings of the same well-bred family.  To my eye, they are some of the finest exemplars of 19th century industrial design, when aesthetics seemed to be as important as function.

A pair each of 61s and 62s ~ aaahh!

Be sure you get an Uberti, it is a 5 shooter of the proper size.  The Pietta is actually a short barreled 1861 Navy, and is a six shooterr, not authentic in size.

They are beautiful guns.  I have the 1862 Pocket Navy, with the octagonal barrel, which is pretty, but the streamlined 1862 Pocket Police is prettier, and has the fluted cylinder, maybe I'll have to get one to make a set.......

this one would be MY favorite Colt Police ;D

Andreas Prinz

i've  had a "Trapper Barrel" on order since November from VTI. No luck yet. Anyone know
where to get one? Also need a frame, really just a cylinder pin for a '49 Uberti colt. Seems uberti does not like to sell SOME parts.

Would 425.oo be a reasonable price for a modern Colt manu. Pocket Police with 5 1/2 inch barrel in excellent condition,,,without the box ?

Thanks gang,

Marshal Deadwood

Seth,,oops!

Not enough info there. Sorry.

Its a second generation Colt. Appears to be pristine,,,except for a slight bit of blue wear in the cylinder notches. No cylinder ring marks.

I am not 'stuck' as I can return it,,,I just wanted to know if it was worth the price,,,,,before I spurged on shipping charges both ways if it turned out to be a bad investment.

It looks good to me though. No box. No papers.  But is a second generation Colt.

If it's a second gen and not a Signature Series, it's worth the price.  Look at GunsAmerica.com for going prices, and they're up there.

The second gen Colt cap & ball are probably the best repros ever made.

I bought one of these holsters from Dell's and can testify to the quality of the piece. It's quite authentic and fit my Uberti 1862 perfectly.  Unlike some of the holsters I've seen, the gun fits down in it far enough that the stap will snap without a Herculean stretching effort. ;)

Converted to 38 Colt, with a Richards Type-I ejector assembly... :o

Oh, Baby!

That would be one of the sexiest guns that never was.

(Whew!  Got a little dizzy for a moment there.)
You must have the Pietta, large frame, 1862 instead of the authentic Uberti model.  Or do you know of someone who makes a conversion cylinder for the Uberti?  I can only find them made to fit the larger Piettas.

Just the recommendation I needed - thanks!
