I was doing one of my favorite pastimes the other day, window peeking.  No I mean on the pictures in the Butcher collection.  Was giving this store a good going over.  Picture 13129, 1886 West Union Custer County Nebraska.  The Boot and Shoe store plus Post Office. 



So I did a look around at everything else, diidn't see a whole lot real unusual, till I looked at the dogs.  I've been looking at the Dogs in the picture a lot lately and I noticed the black on was a bit blurry like he moved, but looked at him close anyway to see what he was doing.



Yep, I looks like Butcher took a picture of a horse poop eating dog.   Where is Photoshop when you need it.

What's with the shutters in the upper level? They look like four panels each with horizontal slats that can be separately opened or closed, a panel at a time. Was that common?

Most likely a living quarters in the attic, you see that sometimes on the false fronted buildings.

  Ah, Coprophagia...

   My adult dogs too.
   Sometimes it is underfeeding, sometimes digestion/health,parasite related, sometimes just dog behavior as scavengers.
   One, if it is raining and he does not want to get his feet wet, will sneak in the house, and then attempt to eat it so as not to be caught and scolded.
   Sigh.
   I tried vet pills to prevent it, but they do not work.

   My dogs are healthy, eat expensive non-cereal (dog chow is often corn or wheat based!!!) chow appropriate for their age and weight, and get treats during the day for going outside and going into their boxes at night.
   But they still will occasionally snarf up a stool!
   Idiots!

   There appears to be a watering can with a handle with flowers in it by the horse's left rear leg, and in front of the dog's head?
   Maybe he was just getting a drink of water?

I can't or don't know how to save it, but when I enlarge it his head seems to be past that, it is a bit blurry though.

Our dogs go after the cat box. We have one of those littermates, and they have to time it just right, or after 10 minutes, it's gone. They aren't too successful, thank goodness. Never have understood that behavior...............Buck

Del, I'm pretty sure that's a double rig saddle and it's his back cinch that's loose. I know on my horses that after riding for a while those back cinches end up being pretty lloose.

I hadn't even been looking at the saddle that much, there is so much to look at when the picture is scanned at right at 2 Meg.  I find I can magnify that about double and still get some decent clarity.  Looking forward to seeing you again this weekend Jack.
