Lyman New Army

I handled an old Lyman-Remington New Army at a gunshop on Saturday. At first I thought it was an original Remmie. It had a beautiful brown patina and had obviously been fired a lot. And yet the cylinder lockup was tight and the cylinder notches were in great shape. It had a few dents in the gripframe, as if it had been used to pound a nail, but nothing too severe. I would have bought it, except the price was $179.95. This seemed high. What do y'all think? Were these good guns?

A friend of mine bought one of these in 1972 (at least I think it was a Lyman) and I recall it being a fine piece.  The price is a bit steep since it may not be compatible with available parts.

That Lyman Remy is made by Euroarms...IF....there is no threads showing at the breech like a NMA. Euroarms/Armi San Paolo replicated an Old Model Army NOT a NMA and parts are available from S & S firearms in Glendale, N.Y.

That price is way too high. You can buy a brand new Euroarms Remy for $220.00 at S & S.

I'd go back and offer $100.00 for it. 

As an aside, Euroarms Parts interchange with orifginal Remy parts...except for some of the screws. The hand screw does!

I think Lyman sold Colt replicas made by Euroarms and Remington replicas made by Uberti. The Lyman replicas are going up in price due to the collectors are starting to pick up on them. When folks start to collect something, the price always goes up.

Euroarms made some of ther Remingtons sold by Lyman. I do not know if they made them all. I think Lyman used Euroarms first???
Look at the breech end of the bbl if you see threads it is NOT a Euroarms. This I know for sure.

I remember that the gun had a 7.5" barrel, not the standard 8". I thought this odd. I'll re-check it Saturday.

Was it the Army .44 or the Navy .36 that had the 7.5" barrel originally?

Origianl NMA's had 8Inch bbls, I do not know about the Navy's but I think the Navy's might have had 7.5 Inch bbls. I'll have to look it up and see I don't have a Navy here to look at.  Sounds like a 36 Cal Navy to me though.

I saw the gun again today. I was wrong; it has an 8" barrel. The tag read "7.5". It has visible threads at the breech.

It is probably Uberti or Pietta then. I'll look in my research material and see I I can clarify who made it.
