I bought another Merwin-Hulbert DA .38. There is no Serial number stamped on the bottom of the
grip frame. The assemby number is under the grip on the left side. It looks like the bottom may have been ground or filled. Is there any way to bring back the S/N? I've seen it done on CSI of some TV program.
Thanks,

There is - but it requires enough special attention so as to damage your Merwin, Hulbert, and it's never as 'clean' as seen on the TV shows.

Thanks St. George. I posted this question on the Merwin-Hulbert site, and was told that the DA's before S/N 9000 were not stamped on the grip frame.
The Assembly numbers are the S/N on these. Just another piece of the puzzle.
Thanks again.

No, they must not be stamped on the rip frame.  My 7-shot .32 DA Pocket Army (I think that's the designation) on the .38 frame is serial #404.  There is only numbers hid in the breech of the cylinder and the barrel.  I thought that was weird.
