we've got several wild peach trees up here, Little red Indian peaches, cold got them the first thing,  they have a few hundred acres of peaches down around Clarksville, I haven't heard anything about them,  they lost about half the crop last year to a late frost, nothing like the last few days.

this story was online this morning about trying to save some peaches over in Oklahoma,  I lived 5 miles down the road from this orchard, went to school with the fella they talk with.

Orchard Owner Goes To Great Lengths To Protect Porter Peach Crop

Porter - The city of Porter in Wagoner County is known as the peach capital of Oklahoma. And, to keep it that way, despite this unusual winter blow, one local grower went to great lengths. NewsChannel 8's Burt Mummolo reports on how these growers battled Mother Nature to get the perfect peach.

It's too much to fit on the label, but when you bite into a Porter peach this summer, just remember it took a helicopter, a giant fan, and an all-nighter to get that sweet deliciousness. At this stage in the game, they look like weird peas, but Kent Livesay is not growing vegetables.

"We grow about 40 kinds of peaches," he says.

Some with names that perfectly describe Kent's job Saturday night, getting just two hours of sleep in a temperature vigil as long as the orchards are deep.

"At this stage of growth, there's very little differential in killing ten-percent of the crop and 90-percent of it," Livesay says.

To keep it closer to that ten-percent, a massive oscillating fan, powered by tractor, rustled warmer, higher air down through the limbs.

"One degree can make a significant difference," Livesay says.

Detecting that one degree takes an OSU contraption with five different thermometers that looks like its landed on Mars.

"What I was looking at last night was what's the difference in the five-foot temperature and the 21-foot temperature," says Livesay. And what was it last night? About three degrees."

In addition to the big fan, Kent had a helicopter fly over the orchard, starting at 3 o'clock a.m. until dawn. Will it make a really make a difference? It's too early to tell he says. Even so, he's optimistic his 12-thousand trees will produce plenty of peaches for everyone. Peak picking time is in July.

The orchard also uses diesel heaters to keep the trees warm. In the meantime, researchers at OSU are collecting data from those monitoring devices to see how much temperature changes affect growth.

Slim, I took a pictue of our pair today and the red Massey-Ferguson was made in Racine.  Brother said they also had a factory at Detroit and he thought at least one in Camada.

Our 1948 TE-20 back about 15 years ago was in the top 10 of Ferguson tractors in the US that still worked for a living as opposed to being restored trailer queens, top 5 got prizes when they had some thing involved with them.  Yep here it is out workin'.

The light colored is a feed plot the red one shredded earlier in the day.
Yer TE-20 has a upright exhaust pipe. Is that stock? My TO-30 has a horizontal exhaust that goes under the right pedals, which is correct according to my owner manual.

The TE-20 had the tall stack when grandpa got it in 6- or 61 and all TA and TE-E's I've ever seen had it.  The TO-35 we had for a while had the other exhaust.  That one was sold when we got the red one, it wasn'r quite big enough for the shredder, worked, but not well.  It passed on to a yuppie with 10 acres and then he bought one a then Jap tractors and it ended back in the hands of the guy we bought it from.  It is now a tractor show trailer queen and looks very nice.  I'm sure it was a Racine one also.  Now I need to get Dad's Ferguson books and look at them.  Dad belonged to a Ferguson tractor forum before he passed.  He posted pictures of what turned out to be the last time he drove the TE-20 in 2005 with a planter on it, none of them knew of a one older still being used rather than being restored.

Been messin' with a slow drain this mornin'.  Augered it now I got lye in it.  Drug the nasty auger out front to rinse it off 'n roll it up.  What do I see 'cross the street?

Ole boy what ain't home much – werkin' in Florida these days – is out with the string trimmer, edgin' up 'n getting' close ta other stuff.  Wearin' himself a pair of wrap-'round shades.  The problem?  He's got his five year old son helpin', right there with 'im, with no eye protection.

I swear......................  Every time I use mine I got stuff stuck to my jeans from the waist down, right at face level for the kid.  What's 'e thinkin'?
