BTW, after I shot the Starling this morning, one of its feet was still clinging to the branch as it was upside-down for a couple minutes before it fell. I've never that before.

They do that once in a while.  Brother was sleepin' in my old dome tent one mornin' years ago, was a whole tree full of starlings above him.  Got the Remmie 28 skeet gun out of the pick-up and pumped 5 rounds of #9's into the tree.  Got 70 some, several which hit the tent.
