Forty Rod

Back in '89, the day after my Dad died, I drove up a local canyon by myself, sat on a rock where we used to fish, and had one last talk with him.  It helped a lot.  Got away from everyone else and had him all to myself for a few hours.
People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

Rick, his IS right there beside you and always will be, that is the beautiful part of a sad situations of life.   My dad died in '94 and I find myself making comments to him now and again.   Not only that each year I get older I look in the mirror and see him staring back at me.   It gets more comfortable with time.

Dad died in '99 after a struggle with cancer.  I still miss him every day.  We were not close but I could always count on him and he on me.  He was a proud Irishman.  Every birthday, anniversary, St. Patty's day, I stop by the cemetary and share a nip of good Irish Whiskey with him.  I pass by that cemetary every day on the way to and form work, I never fail to greet him.  He body may be gone but he is still with me more than ever.  I often ask myself, "What would dad do" as questions come up in my life.

Hold the memory of your dad close and he will never be gone from your life.

Sorry to hear pard, didn't know...My mom passed in 1988, and I still miss her a bunch. The pain gets better, but the memories remain.
We buried her with her fringed leather coat the indian jewelry I gave her her moccasins and my pop slipped her wedding ring and his wedding ring onto a carniation (her fave flower) and we closed the casket. We sat graveside while Duane and helper backhoed the dirt in and tamped it down, so we are pretty sure no one will dig her back up...BTW, she is in the Corcoran Cemetary (figgured you could dig that)
I was passing thru Lone Pine and stopped into the indian store there...I was looking at a pair of mocs I knew mom would love and was gonna point it out to Phyllis, when over the PA came playing Amazing Grace on the bagpipes..(her fave song and method of playing it)....FREAKED ME OUT!!! I mean when did you last hear the pipes (bag style) playing in an indian storellllguess my mom was there saying hi!

take her slow, and hang loose, it will hurt less....
