New Vaquero, that's the same as this, right?

Forgive my ignorance, but the Vaquero I fell in love with recently is the new model, at first I had no idea there was an OLD one.
Finding grips for a NV is kinda tough, I had to modify the Ajax "agead ivory" grips for the older model. It took a lot of effort, but I finally made it work:

A month later of course, I see this:

It says here:

Yes, the XR3 is the New Vaquero gripframe. It is also the old model (pre 1973) Blackhawk and Single Six gripframe.

 Has any one tried to fit a birdshead or bisley grip frame :o from an early model to the new smaller vaquero
