shoots left  about 6 inches at 25 yards...anyway to fix this ?

knucklehead

You may allready know what i am typing here but i will type it anywhays.
first thing i would do is try different loads. get the best grouping you can get with 5 rounds using different loads(same loads for 5 shells, then change loads for next 5 loads)
and use a bench rest.

my 45lc only hit the paper at 15 yards 2" low and to the left about 2". using titegroup and 200 grain pill.
i took em to my gunsmith after i found the best groups from working up my loads.
the gunsmith filled down the front sight and twisted my barrel till i was hitting poa with my loads.

my 357 vaqueros hit poa right out of the box.

you should also let us know what cal. you are shootin.

yea, I thought about load changes, but havent expiermented enough yet to see if it would fix it...THANKS.its a 44 mag.

Harpman...assuming you are experienced shooting handguns, I'd buy a box of factory ammo or load up a handful with loads in the slight upper half of your load data for the powder you're using. If ya still have the problem, take it to your local 'Smith and have him sight it to POA on the windage. When you get it back you can sight in the elevation with whatever load you ultimately decide on... If you were not experienced, I'd recommend you have another shooter try it first.

If those lead pills are hittin to the left your 'Smith might be able to turn the barrel to the left without any thing further. This'll move the front sight to the left.

If you can't get it taken care of quickly, inexpensively, and at the local level, box it up and send it to Ruger and they'll fix it for you pretty quickly.

Are you a righty or lefty (no offense!)???  Okay, Let's assume you're a righty.
Switch hands & shoot it from your left hand.  Problem better now?

You'll just have to buy a "right hand six-gun" now.  Ya need one fer each hand, anyhoo.  Double Duelists & Gunfighter have MORE fun!!!

I should be horsewhipped, stabbed, shot and then drug through the streets of a liberal city.....I tested this Vaquero again today, with a new attitude, very relaxed and focused attitude....so I shoot right handed, bullets land left 5 inches, I shoot left handed they shoot right 5 inches, I shot off a rested postion at 25 yards they hit center a 3 inch group...So I went back to 30 feet off hand and tried again, now knowing it will work..and shot right handed into a nice small group dead center.. ::).Thanks guys !

knucklehead

Gee,

sounds like your just like me cant keep still enough to hit the center without the rest.

another way to get that vaquero to shoot straight is to load it with 30 grains by volumn of black powder with a 240 bullet ;D
it does wonders for hitting the target. ;D

I just loaded 28.5 grains by wieght, of cartridge goex...darn sweet, I been shooting alot of black, muzzle loaders and sharps, and 1858 remy, but I swear the more I shoot black the more I love this stuff....this time I come back 15 paces, (long steps), and got all the rounds in the black, and they were spread out, so my left pull is better already..I think that was about a 9 inch black on the target.

...Common problem for a right hander is shooting low and left...sometimes caused by inserting too much finger into the trigger. You should use the meaty portion behind the nail but not into or past the first joint. JMHO don't ya know ;)

Yup...to much finger on the trigger.  Put your index finger of the off hand on the front of the trigger guard and you will feel if your pulling the gun off target.  I was doing the same thing when I first got my new revolvers.
