Not a gun cart...but, if your looking to build one quick and dirty and have something fairly solid: Target has this wooden wagon for $23.10 that is ALL wood, with wood side rails, metal axles and pneumatic tires. Hell, the tires and axels alone are worth twice the price. It's going to be the chassis for my gun cart as I need to build one by Sunday.

Orchard supply sells a slightly nicer model for $119!

I'd like to make one, but I've just got too much on my plate right now.  Anyway, I gotta make a comment about the customer service.  FedEx dropped the ball on their end, and Gunther went to bat for me.  He got the cock-up cleared up and delivery is set for the original time, so I don't have to rearrange my plans to meet it.  When was the last time you dealt with somebody whose reputation meant more to them than your check?  Been awhile for me.  Anyway, my hat's off to Gunther.

Nice, Daniel.  Guns vertical, no lookin' down the barrels.  I like that.  Three wheeler for stability.  Another plus.  Is that a hand break I see?  I'm always runnin' late, so maybe that's a good feature for me to consider!

I like any of the carts that allow one to sit.  Can you rest a spell on the rack in the front?  My legs really hurt by the end of the day from standing.

Howdy,

I made a Valise that is about three times bigger than the Civil War Union Officer style.  It holds my ammo, my side x side scatter gun (broken down) and my spare pistol.  I also carry patches, Balistol and other needful things.  The Valise easily straps on the back of my motorcycle and although a bit heavy works well at a shoot.  I will be joining NCOWS next year so it will work for those matches as well.  I also have a wheeled cart that fits in the truck or it breaks down and fits in the "Tour-Pack" of my Harley.

Yup, 'tis a hand brake.  I use it more as a parking brake, 'cause this cart rolls SO easily a strong breeze can hijack it...

Nope, can't sit on it -- the front wheel's too small for my caboose!   That's why I also carry either a camp stool or a folding chair on the cart.

Here is my gun cart, home made but with still some tiny problems!



4 weels are not perfect on hard ground. Half bit, used with reins is pretty useful when hard slope.
I don't recommend the side held guns or need to use thick foil to avoid them moving and rattling.

Daniel,  I love your cart.  I've got a stroller frame and have been trying to figure out the best way to make it into a cart.  I think I may adapt some of your ideas.  I've even got a few racks left over from my bicycling days.  Perfect!

I also like your valise Pete.

I drive a Taurus, so space is limited and I currently use a take down cart given to me by a dear friend.  It still has much life left, but is becoming soft around the edges where the pieces slide together.

99% finished with my gun cart, made of poplar.  It was a copied design from Doc Martin combined with the Cherokee Coby Cart.  It uses plow handles to give the rigidity of Doc's cart, and folds down like the Cherokee Cart.  The plow handles attach with T nuts and easily come off; then the cart folds down.  The small box on the rear is permanently attached while the "strong box" is removable.  The Northern Tool steel wheels have bronze bushings (I installed) to reduce the hub to accept a 1/2" axle and roll smoothly.  Some cart builders are concerned with the steel wheels, but I just could not bring myself to use rubber or plastic spoked wheels.  I gave it a test ride over my gravel driveway and it rolls fine.  They are attached with pins and are easily removed - if I ever need to install pnumatic tires or something else.  Hardware is from Van Dykes Restorers.  As I get better pictures, I can add some.

I want to thank Doc Martin for answering all my questions and going out of his way to send pictures and give me construction advice.  I have never met the man in person, but seems to be a great guy.  Kudos to Doc.
