Major Matt Lewis

Well, this is a Good News Bad News deal....

The good news is my company (going thru lay-offs right now) has told me that since my Project is due for implementation in October, I will not be able to take any vacation in September or October and will have to be handy for the warrenty period.

So, that means, as of this minute, they are planning on not laying me off.  ;D But the downside is that I will not be at the GAF Muster this year. :-[

Oh well...I reckon feeding the family comes first..

I say that US Scout pull this years event to together.  He has committed to be there.

Glad to hear you won't be laid off.  Dang how those work places control your life....I've got to stick close February/March and maybe some of April....almost like being grounded (not that I ever was, of course)   :-X

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make the muster Major. As BK said it won't be the same without you.

I can relate to the whole "work rules your life" thing. When I was farming full time I could pretty much never get away for more than a few hours, not htat I'd have had the money to go anywhere anyway.

That's bad news indeed, Richard!  :(

Any chance you'll at least be able to slip away on the weekend itself, for a bit of a visit with us?  ???

While on the subject of Muster, I need to clarify/confirm the exact dates - one of your earlier posts said it will be on "the weekend of September 17th".   I note that date is a Monday ... so do I take it that what we we are talking about is Thursday, September 13 through Monday, September 17?

Thanks, John! I plan on taking enough time off to get there no later than Thursday, and thus be available for whatever setup assistance I can provide.

By the way, who do I contact about reserving suitable quarters onsite, which I understand is a possibility ... Chantilly?

Kayleen Best.

There is a thread under "CAS Events" that she started that you should be able to get her contact info, at least to pm her.
Many primitive camp on the top of the hill, also, within a fenced enclave meant to keep inquisitive bovines out of your tent.
Lone Gunman has an interesting anecdote about what happens when you make camp outside of the compound. . .

Rattle Snake Jack,
I will put your name on the list for being in the primitive area inside the fenced area.

Bvt Col and Maj Lewis,

Don't ya just hate it when work interfers with having fun?  Happens to me all the time anymore.  Used to be I wasn't so critical at work - now it seems nothing can happen without me being involved.

Your enforced AWOL status will be noted when we hand out the awards.  ;D

Looks like I've got to assemble me some staff assistants to get the Grand Muster held as scheduled.

Thanks to all who have sent e-mails and/or PMs over the last couple of days volunteering their services.  I will be in touch over the next few days (I have Boy Scouts this evening and a program at my son's school tomorrow), but that will give me a little time to consider what we need to do.

Kayleen:

Actually, I had the idea (from what my befogged old brain seems to recall hearing about the site last year) that there was the possibility of some sort of bunkhouse/barracks type of accomodation - which is what I'd prefer, if that understanding is correct.  (I've come to the realization that it is too far to drag all the camping gear needed and then haul it back.)

As an alternative, are there reasonable motel accomodations available nearby?

Jack,

I believe there is a Holiday Inn Express in Indian Falls.  I was planning on staying there this year.  If the SASS Iowa State Championship is still on the property, I may try to make it up for that in early August.

Personally, I think you should go anyway.  I mean, it's time for those kids to learn to fend for themselves!   ;D
In fact, I'll bet they don't even change their own diapers yet.  Can't baby them forever you know.

There are hotels in Iowa Falls and Hampton which are with in a half hour drive from the range in Ackley.  As for on site accomadations you'll have to get in touch with Kayleen.

Rattlesnake Jack,
You got it, you will be in one of the buildings without a problem. General store has bunks in it and you are not far from the shower house. I provide towels, soap,& shampoo. Not that I am saying you are dirty but it is easier not to have to pack all that stuff.
Look forward to having you with us.

Hill,

How the heck are you?  My little one is finally out of diapers, so I don't have to wrangle poopies anymore!

Kayleen:

My heartfelt thanks for your gracious confirmation of accomodation space!

I shall, of course, come suitably equipped with such bedding and other personal equippage as befits a Gentleman and Officer of Her Britannic Majesty's Forces ...  ;D

Let me recommend the AmericInn where Tess and I stayed, very quiet and comfortable. We'll be there this September too.
