Greetings and Salutations,
Does anyone have a bullet that they like for reloading the Krag? I have several .30 cal. molds and was wondering if any of you case stuffers had one they liked over the others?

When the cambrian measures were forming they promised purpetual peace. They swore if we gave up our weapons the wars of the tribes, they would cease, but when we disarmed they enslaved us and delivered us bound to our foe and the Gods of the copybook headings said, "Stick to the devil you know." For most of my shooting I use the Lee C309-200-R, Tumble lubed with Liquid alox, run thru a Lee 311 sizer with Hornaday gas checks.

Thanx sarge,
What I use is a Lyman #311334 pushed by 8.0 grains of Unique, giving me approx. 1200fps. I'm new to reloading the .30 U.S. and just wanted to hear what others like for the old war horse.

I use varying charges of IMR 4350, the loads tailored to the application.  From 1300 FPS up to 2000.  This is done in accordance with the new reduced load data in the latest Lee Load manual.  Very clean, no leading, and very gentle on the rifle.

The key to this data with the Krag is to remember that the .308 and the .30-40 have nearly identical internal volume.  If anything, the Krag seems the more efficent of the two at these lower pressures.

Does ammo for battle rifle matches need to be as "issued" or down loaded to meet a maximum fps ceiling?

Max is 1400 fps, no more than 405 grains lead.  See "Battle Rifle Standards" posting.
