I finally got smart.
« on: February 02, 2007, 08:04:07 PM »
Well, maybe "a little less dumb" would be more accurate. I won an auction for a Cimmaron Richards-Mason conversion of an 1860 Army in .44 Colt with an 8 inch barrel. The vendor is Triangle C Ranch. The reason I say "a little less dumb" is because I realize I've been wasting a lot of time, energy and money flailing around trying to figure out a persona and buying guns I'm now selling at fire sale prices. I've learned this lesson before, too, but it doesn't seem to stick for long. Well, enough whining.

Amazing how things you buy on line aren't quite "real" until you see and touch them. I did both today and it's just beautiful. Not drop-dead, make people drool and be envious beautiful, just plainly so in a practical, no-nonsense way. Here's the pic they used for the auction:

Now I have an historically correct cartridge conversion to incorporate into a persona. I'm cleaning out my closet and gun locker and clearing the decks for action. I'll be busy for a month or two, so it'll be a while before I'll have time to give it thought. But give it thought I will.

Thanks, SB. It surprised me how well I could handle the grip size, I thought it would need to be reduced, but it seems to be okay in my palsied little paw. Well, we'll see when I get to the range.

Frenchie, I have one just like it, and am very pleased.  Like any 1860, it shoots high at normal ranges, so aim low.  Seems to be sighted in for about 75 yards.  The .44 Colt is easy to load.  Get the Lee Factory Crimp Die for .44 Magnum, it will screw down far enough to do the Colt.  Good Shooting!

Frenchie,

Nice pistol.  I may have to get one of those new fangled cartridge conversions, just to have one.  I'd get it in .44 Colt in all likelihood.

 :o :o :o  I have to reload for this thing?!? I've never reloaded, don't know anything about it, there's so much stuff to get and learn how to use it... and I might stand a good chance of blowing myself up! Can't I just sell a kidney to get all the BP ammo I need? <panic>

Reloadin' tis easy.  Just takes alot of patience till you know what your doing.  Theres plenty of pards in CASCity that will give you all the advice you could ever hope for.  Plus there are tons of manuals on the market that will help.  But if reloading for that pistola will be a problem for you I'd gladly take it off your hands. ;D ;D ;D  Thats a nice looking shooter hope to see you at the Muster shooting it.

Del, you didn't mention how many are wearing an eyepatch...  :o

Guys, I know reloading isn't rocket science (unless you do manage to blow yourself up; then it's a problem in fundamental ballistics, with you as the ball). It's just I ain't as young as I used to be and My Lovely Bride and I are moving into a smaller place. But hey, if I can save some money and have a good time (and thumb my nose at the 110th Congress's majority party's plans for us all), then I'm willing to give it a go. I plan to be shooting a .38LC Navy Colt conversion, .56-50 Spencer and a .50 cal. Smith along with the Army Colt. Eventually. Sheesh. I'm tired just thinking about it all.

Frenchie,
The 'real' question here is not how to reload, it is what you are going to 'sell' to support your reloading habit. Soooooooo...what are you going to sell me, hmmmm?
Best regards and good shooting!

Hey Frenchie;

One of the advertisers here at the "City" sells .44 Russian and they should fit your pistol.

or

You could sell it to me;  I'm getting set to load Russians.
