Well it's been a great bird season, best in a long time. Both freezers are full, but its seems like forever since the remingtons and the lever gun have been out of the safe. But the KVC is reven' up for another season next weekend (27-28). This is usually the only shoot of the year where we will all sleep in a genuine building WITH HEAT. After the shootin irons are put away, the cards and adult beverage will make an appearance. Good times with good friends, don't get much better.

How many Posses get to camp and shoot at an orignal Stage Coach station.  This is one of the KVC highlights.  At least once a year we all descend on the Duck Creek station and shoot about six very challenging stages.  (At lest two will involve moving targets.)

It is our hope/goal, to eventually restore the 2-story stone station building.  That will be tooo cooool.  It is stil standing but needs a roof, etc.

It has been too long since I have felt the buck and heard the roar of my old .45.  I love the smell of black powder in the morning.

Got the good woman, the pickup, and 3 good bird dogs (2pointers, a lab) and a brand new pointer pup.

Got the good woman, but ... I don't think our new $hithead, er ... Schitzu, would end up bein' a good birddog.  Birdbrain,  maybe! :D

Well, the shoot-out a Duck Creek Station went well.  The wood stove was well stoked, there was plenty of food and a target rich environment at the range.  Attendence was a little light due to a predicted high temprature of 28 for Saturday.  But the weather was "really nice."

After a big breakfast we sallied forth and engaged the ruthless red-legs in four fun & challenging stages; including simulated gatling guns, ..."draw them pistols or whistle Dixie..." and "Hell's coming to breakfast."  Then back to the hacienda to warm up and grab bite of lunch.  (The KVC is about shooting and eating.)  The final stage of the day was a defence of the out-house.  (Kind of a reverse of the out-house shooting in Unforgiven.)  This included an "Eldorado sign" target of my own design.

Following dinner, there was a sem-serious poker game.

Sunday morning was comenced with, you guessed it, a big breakfast; and then more shooting.  We defended the out house again and plinked with Griz's Smith carbine.  Then the fun really started.  Those of you who have shot with the KVC know that our targets are never too close.  So when we set a popper at 5 yards, who needs sights.  Everybody did some instinctive shooting until the ammo was expended.

Then lunch.  We had a lot of food to finish off.  No left-overs in this outfit.

Now we're pumped for the NCOWS Convention.  Look out Council Bluffs, the Kansas Vigilence Committee is coming.
