Hello everyone. I recently moved to Northern Virginia, and recently purchased an original Spencer carbine, serial number 14743. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can find out the history of this Spencer? Are any rimfire cartridges still available that i can test fire with it? I would like to have it checked out first to determine if it is safe to fire. Does anyone have suggestions on who to take it to in the Northern Virginia Area. I really enjoy owning this piece of history. I appreciate any responses.

welcome to the camp- I am a little new to the site, but I'll take a stab on a few of your questions.  As I understand, no rimfire ammo has been made for almost a hundred years, but there is an outfit that makes a centerfire conversion: S&S firearms, I think.  That particular info is on several threads at this site.  Hope this helps, and again, welcome.
