Looks like the price of Goex FF on Powder Inc will run about $10.88/lb with all the @#$% extra fees if I order 25 lb.  That is at least $1.50/lb increase since the last time my pard Arcey and I order powder.  Buying locally through gun shops is crazy and almost makes it hard to afford to shoot the real powder.

Where are all ya'll getting your powder and what prices are ya'll seeing.  If ya got a good online sourse I would sure like ta hear bout it.

Thanks for all the help JB.  Have you used Wano before?  Is cleanup any harder than with Goex.  I assume cleanup is more an issue of lube than powder but just curious as all I have used is Goex to this point.

Will, I'm using Wano now.  100% for CAS cartridge and shotgun reloads.  Compared to Goex, it packs a greater wallop than Goex, so I cut back cartridges from 35gr to 30gr FFFg... 45 Colts.  For 12 ga shotgun, using the same recipe as when I loaded with Goex ... 3 dram square load using FFg.

Wano (Schuetzen) pass - hold ratio's compared to Goex - the fines are more  in Wano at the 20 mesh for FFg and 40 mesh for FFFg.  That makes Wano more 'smokey' but ... the foul from any BP is still potassium carbonate and lube.  No, clean up is not any harder with Wano.

I've also shot Wano in my BPC rifles.  Accuracy at 200 - 300 - 600yds yielded groups with no major differences than those using Goex.  With 70gr charges - more fire and smoke because of the charcoal and greater fines.  Don't get me wrong, I have not sworn off completely using Goex for BPCR ... excellent groups using Cartridge and FFFg sifted to remove the fines out to 600yds.  Express is overpriced IMHO, so I avoid buying though I still have 2 cans left

Here's the bottom line: For CAS, the dialed in group accuracy is not required as it is for BPCR.  Jim Kirkland has held the price on Wano ... Goex runs the price up approximately 10% each year.  So, comparing Quality - Quantity as a function of cost ... Wano is the powder in my mind for CAS and I've laid in a case of it.

Here's another factor:  Goex had the corning mill explosion in August 2006.  Normal production is out of business until July 2007, so I've heard.  Powder Inc, Goex's major distributor is out of stock for FFg now!  Would guess the impact will be greater with over the counter retailers when their prior explosion inventory is gone - not being able to replenish it until the earliest, middle of 2007

Howdy

I just shared a case of Goex and Scheutzen with a friend. He got it from Maine Powder House. I don't remember exactly, but once the shipping and Haz-Mat fee was figured in it was around $10.80/pound. A friend told me about that $9/pound price for Schuetzen at Upper Missouri, and we got all excited. But once he got the scoop on the shipping and Haz-Mat fee it came out to just about the same as the Maine PowderHouse prices. Don't get all excited about $9/pound until you do all the math. $10.80/pound is still better than $13.99 over the counter. My favorite local supplier screwed up and forgot to renew his Federal permit. Now he has to reapply and with all the anti-terrorism stuff it's a big hassel for him. I hope he gets his permit again because he was only about an hour or so away. I could always run over there and grab a few pounds if I started to run low.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Howdy,

Upper Missouri Trading Co. is run by Doc. Carlson who is a former director of both the NRA & NMLRA and a fine fellow.  Can't go wrong dealing with him!!

I'm hoping my last couple-three pounds of GOEX lasts until we get out little tax refund back, then I am loading up of the Graff Powder, I've read good things about it.
Ah well, only eleven more months until my wife gets her social security and then well have a couple of nickels to rub together sometimes.

Gents, don't want to beat a dead horse but ... Upper Missouri Trading Company prices are the best for 25# shipments!
Wano - $9/can
Swiss - $15/can
Ship & Handling - $16.95
HazMat - $20

So, on a 25# shipment, add $1.48 to the price of each can ...
Wano - $10.48
Swiss - $16.48

Look up the prices on Graf - Powder Inc - Maine Powder House (includes S/H and HazMat) for 25# shipments.... UMTC beats them all
That's my story and I'm sticking to it  ;)
