Want to send my RV's out for some work next month. Contacted " the man " that everyone say is the best ( and from what I heard he is ) . But I do have a question on shipping them out to him.
He said to send them out UPS 2nd day air , but here is the problem I have , he does not have a FFL.  He told me since he is a gunsmith and does not buy or sell gun he dos'ent need s FFL. He has done work on other peoples guns and they sent them to him with no problem .  I don't think a FFL in my state (NY) would send my RV's to him if he dos'ent have a FFL . Am I being overly concerned  ???  I sure if I tell UPS that there are guns in the package and I sending them to someone that dos'ent have a FFL they would frown  >:( at that.  How would you go about sending them out or is it OK to send them to him ? If you perfer not to answer here you can send me a  PM.

You MUST send the handguns overnight (per federal shipping regs and the regs of the shipper), and you MUST also ship to an FFL.  That is the law.

I don't know who the gunsmith is, but the guns have to be sent to an FFL.

It is my understanding that in order to be a "gunsmith" and keep other people's firearms more than 24 hours, one must have an FFL.

It's not like it used to be, but it'll do.

Can only ship modern firearms to a licensed FFL.  Period!

It's been my understanding that all reputible gunsmits have an FFL. They log the guns in they receive for repair and send them back to you directly without having to do a 4473, the yellow form. As far as I can tell, there is no requirment for you to ship the gun to a licensed gunsmith through another FFL holder. As a general rule, I always send them a copy of my Driver's License and carry permit with the shipment for their records.

The atf website says that gunsmiths have to be liscened and be able to fill out the paperwork for transfers.
