I'm almost sorry I put that episode of FFFFg in my ROA on the wire.  Yes, it happened, yes the hammer was "cocked" and yes the gun was semi auto.  Also, I had blood running from my forehead and my glasses were pitted.  It's a BAD idea and one I won't repeat.  The nipple holes allowed enough gas thru that the hammer was blown open.  That meant the cap went. . . . where my face was.  Don't ever do it.  Also, don't put heathen fad smokeyless powder in the C&B cylinder.  The pressure is all wrong.  The ROA will handle it, but your face won't.

Please, I'd not want anybod to ever get hurt, loose an eye or hurt someone else from teasing the dragon just because the ROA is a very strong gun.

All that said, you CAN put all the FFFg you can get behind a 210 grain conical and still get the cylinder to turn on a ROA.  When ya do that, it's very near magnum power, and it's safe.

I've found large magnum pistol's to be a tad cleaner in .44-40, no appreciable difference in .44 Russian, or .38's.

Dick, I guess what goes around, comes-around in the BPCR world. A bunch of us were playing with every variation of primer back in '95 (& chatting about it on the old BP-L). Many (including myself) found the large standard pistol to give slightly better SDs and lower dispersions. I don't use them though and posted to that list many years ago....pistol primer is slightly shallower in depth and will seat further into the rifle case. This permits more setback force against the rifle's breech face...resulting in a cratered face....I believe a number of shooter's now have had a very hard breech insert installed to wither repair and/or prevent this.
