I just bought a can of Trailboss powder to try in my remmies with conversion cylinders ...i`m loading 45cl 200 gr rnfp .452 bullets . i don`t have a scale to weigh the powder ...useing lee dippers ..looks like the 1.6 cc dipper will throw about 5.5 grs useing my conversion chart . Can anyone give me an idea of the fps to be expected with this load useing this lee dipper .Just planning on punching paper with these loads on an indoor range ... thanks fer any info .

Sundance,..................according to the data on IMR's website for Trailboss powder...

http://www.imrpowder.com/data/handgun/trailboss.php

For 45 Colt they list a maximum load of 6.5 gr Trailboss giving a velocity of 855fps with 200gr LRNFP

I have a Dillon balance scale and just measured a 1.6cc Lee dipper of Trailboss and it's 7.5gr
The 1.3cc dipper throws 6.7gr

Don't take my word , though, ..to be safe you should get your hands on a scale and measure it yerself.

Have fun & good luck.

I couldn't get the scoops to give reliable REPEATABLE weights with Trailboss. I use a Lee Perfect Powder Measure, but you'll need a scale to regulate it. I will say this, Trailboss gave excellent accuracy in a .44 Spcl. carry gun I load for. I was hitting 5 in. plates easily at 15 yds. from a 2 1/2 in. snub DA only.  ;)

Thanks fer the info pards ....i`ll get a scale one of these days , been loading only black powder and the subs by volume so long just didn`t need one ...Oldem i think you hit it just right for the 1.6 cc dipper ..i loaded 10 and fired them this morning ..not too stout for my remmies  ..but good stout loads but not as stout as a case full of goex ..next batch i `ll load a few with the 1.3 cc dipper..this powder is some strange looking stuff ..it will be good for the indoor range .guess i should get the lee powder drop for my set up ..would make it easyer ...this powder hasn`t been around that long , i did go on the site and order a loading data book from them ...none of the data books i have even list this powder .

A 1.3 dipper will give you a range of 6.1 to 6.4. I loaded several trying this method the other night weighing each charge. The average was 6.2.

Thanks  Sgt. Eli ...well i was close trying to figure it on a calculator ..with the data i got off the net ..6.5 gr . will shoot 855 fps . Going to Sportsmans warehouse and buying a weigh scale today ....might want to work up some loads even lighter for the wife ...probally in the 5.5 gr .range. Loaded a few with the 1.3 dipper but haven`t had a chance to try them yet .
This powder may not meter very well ..it is hard to strike a level load in the dippers .

Sundance I had problems with primers backing out when running 5.5. Not all the time, but enough that I was getting a little agitated.

Well bought a scale ...don`t tell my blackpowder friends what i`m up too.... i feel like i`m sneaking around loading this stuff . .... :-\ . Haven`t had a problem with the primers backing out ( yet ) but i`ll keep an eye on it ...so far i`ve only loaded and shot with oregon trail 200 gr rnfp bullets ...the 250 gr bullets may cause a primmer backing out problem ....probally try some latter .
I sent for a data book from Trailboss ...but it may not have any more infromation in it than the internet site does ....and that ain`t much .
I loaded a few with 7.5 grs ..and they were stouter , but here we go again ...i`ll have to buy a chrono to know exactally what they are flying . The internet data says 6.5 grs is flying 855 fps ..but i have my doubts ... 6.5 feels like a puney load . Would really like to know what the 7.5 gr loads are flying .
Anyone ever put a chrono on this powder ?????
