Pards, My Lovely Bride (of course we all know this is code for She Who Must Be Obeyed  :D) has decreed that we shall find a new domicile in God's own country. Not that I'm reluctant, not at all, I'm quite happy to move to such a beautiful area dripping with history, especially the Valley campaigns of the War of the Rebellion. We have our eyes on a gorgeous place right smack on the side of Massanutten Mountain near New Market.

Unfortunately, this means leaving my new friends at the local gun club and conveniently-located range  :'(. C'est triste. But then, of course, the Old Dominion is much more gun-friendly than the People's Democratic Republic of Maryland, where the license plates ought to say, "If you can dream it, we can tax it, and forget a concealed carry permit, you loser". But I digress.

Are there any pards out there who live in the Valley and can tell me about good places to go shooting? Black powder rifle and revolvers, and possibly Dad's Model 70 Winchester. I'm already a member of the NRA and NMLRA, and will more than likely join th N-SSA when I get there. Any information/advice is appreciated.

The 100-yd. public range at Dry Creek in the national forest just west of Harrisonburg is open 365 (unless being used for LEO practice).  This is at the edge of the state, and is over the line in West Viriginia, but still convenient.  Unattended, no facilities (beyond a concrete "dry" restroom), covered benches.  Take water & food!

Digem Deep

Howdy

We live in the Sheanadoah Valley between Staunton and Lexington Va. There is some shooting areas around. If you let me know what area you are interested in I can narrow it down some. The Blue Ridge Regulators are near Lexington Va. It is part of a larger shooting club.

PM me and I will see if I can be of more assistance.

Frenchie, Digem is a great Pard, He'll help you get squared away in no time. But you may want to change your choice of words to "The war of Northern aggression" once you move there... ;D

Thanks heaps, pards.

Dig'em, I'll be in touch again when we get settled.

Major, I know, I'll keep a low profile and never say anything positive about Generals David Hunter and Phil Sheridan  8)

Virginia Gentleman

I confess I was born in Montgomery County, in Bethesda, MD and eventually, cut the barbed wire and swam accross the river to the Old Dominion.  I now live in Potomac Falls, in Loudoun County, Virginia and it is like being freed from a POW camp.  Gun laws are awesome with lifetime concealed carry and open carry for anyone that wants to do it. Taxes are lower and the people are more friendly to boot.  Welcome!

Thanks, pards! I'll be in touch when we get settled in.

Virginia Gentleman, I've lived in Montgomery County on and off since 1970 except for '83 to '95 when I lived in Manassas, and in Baltimore City from '99 to 2001 and Baltimore County since '05. It's so dad-blasted exciting to be going back to Virginia where Liberty still means something!

And we didn't get the house near New Market but we found one I like better just north of Luray, on the other side of Massanutten. We'll see the sun rise much earlier this way. Driving over the mountain on Route 211 is a hoot!

I've got to stop talking so much about the Valley, I don't want everyone moving there!  ;D
