Never noticed that, but he does, notice the "FAT" one standin' notice they have a pair of chaps to fit him.  Would be a lot of work to make a pair to fit a sorta fat guy just for a staged 1900 photo. ::)

Interestin' image.

Third from the left looks like he's holdin' a whip.  Makes me wunner what they were doin'.  He's wearin' what we'd call taday a sports jacket, looks like it's a size er two too small.  I gottah closet full from the werk days.  Then again, maybe it's a suit.  Can't tell.

Best I can tell the ole fella next ta the fat guy is wearin' bib overalls.

Three of 'em wearin' hats that could have come from the same store.

Only one heeled seems ta be the shooter...........

I was trying to make out the 3rd ones from left, whip or a long quirt. It looks way too short to be a lariat. Really a little short for a stock whip, but I have them 6' long so it may very well be. Lot of the old Cowcrews the cow boss usually went heels, but from other photo's of the 1900's the crew didn't. Mebbe a longgun on their saddle.  Something they were more profient with.   Not all soldiers carry a handgun.

Go to  http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/psquery.html  type dancing lesson into the search, second picture is the one I used, a staged photo, date says 1889, but I am not sure of it, one of the few  Butchers ones I am not sure of dates on.  There is a small pocket pistol on the ground.  Click on thumb and then click on larger image.  If I photo bucket it it will size by half, about 2 meg in the full one.  I also can't post a direct link to the picture, some security thing that causes problems.  I am not sure what the pistol he's shootin' is, a big DA, looks like it might bu a swing cylinder, but the barrel looks strange.  That makes me wonder about the date.

Got another one that bugs me from the "I'm so PC I ain't PC folks."  Started noticin' this one about 8-9 years ago when I started dablin' in some Civil War stuff, we all know "Salt Pork"  is part of the old army ration.  Well you can buy salt pork at most grocery stores, but it's "fatback" that strip of very fat meat that is above the loins.  Them guys buy that, cut it up and fry it, and think they is PC.  Well I guys the Army threw the rest of the hog away.   ;D

Yep, the "Whole Hog" was cut up and put in the "Pork Barrel."  That strip of fat was used in the beans, unless you were "scrapin' the bottom of the barrel."  But watch the Civil War stuff on the History Channel, yep they all is eatin' Fat Back.  A loin, brined for a couple of weeks would be much better eatin'.  But I would soak it over night like they did if they could, not fry it with all the salt in it. ;D

Vote fer litl rooster, get a Pork Barrel." ;D

I was just kidding, I knew he'd stop by to see what we were doin'  besides that I know he agrees with us.  BTW I keep my cell phone, shut off in my canvas (PC, cost about $5 to make) saddle bags.  Out of site, but handy, had someone see it one time at a ren-actment event, they poked at me tongue in cheek because I know them, not in the nasty way some do on the PC stuff.  Got out my little note book I keep in there also and a pencil and said.  "I need to add yer name to the ones I don't call 911 in case you have a heart attack." ;D

19th century PC says we lay you on yer bedroll and make you comfertable cause even if we have a PC Doc, ain't nuthin' we could do for you but watch to see if you live or die. ::)
