You need to move back to Texas to get your attitude readjusted.

I was thinkin' of that.  My father is planning to move sometime next year.  I probably should make plans to go maybe in the spring, but before he is busy packing.

I made the mistake of showing up one Christmas in Colorado when he was packing to move to Boerne.  I got to drive twice with him down through the northern panhandle.  Now, the trip was far shorter than from NC to TX, but as you are aware, it sure was much MUCH more boring.  Don't get me wrong, that landscape is second to none in my book.  But it just doesn't change. :o

Trinity, You hurt my feelins. I was born in the Texas Panhandle and went to college in the Oklahoma Panhandle.

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings.  I was just saying that the only thing to look at was a wire fence on both sides of the highway and the occasional live oak.  Occasionally a break in scenery did occur when the entry to the ranch would pop out of nowhere.  I often wondered if one of the ranchers were to throw a shindy, how he told the others down at the co-op to get to the ranch.

"Turn right fifteen miles north, past the wind blown live oak with only eight branches."
"Turn left 52 miles past the large lone bolder."
...

that may be better directions than one of the neighbors gave me once,  he told me to set up a deer stand there by that oak tree that always has the squirrel in it.   ??? ???    they ain't but a million oaks with squirrels sitting in em. ;D

Carl is this guys name, one of my best friends up here,  he goes out and digs ginseng roots this time of year,  there's a lot of it growing wild up here and he has planted a bunch through the years, he plants seeds every year and they will regrow from the roots if ya leave a few, so he's always digging a bunch of it,  I think he dug about 300 pounds of it last year.  but he's always telling me where he planted some of it,  It'll be like you go over to big flat and go west to the biggest red oak tree, turn left to the edge of the mountain,  he gets down with them directions.  ;D

We had an old fella for a dispatcher when I worked in a county south of Dallas. He would give you directions over the radio like that while you were in route to the call.  He had lived in  that county all his life and had been a Deputy in the 50s and early 60s. He knew all those people out there and what their house and barns looked like. His directions were incredible. It made you feel like you had lived there all your life.

One time me an ma Pard Big John was drivin around San Jose and got lost.  We were stopped at a red light an there was this very large woman on the side walk.  I leaned out the window an asked her how ta get to where we needed ta go.
Here directions were, "oh, I know right where that is.  Go up to the Taco Bell an turn left.  When ya get ta the Sizzler turn right.  If ya get ta the Mc Donalds ya gone to far.  It's just after the Wendys".
Her directions worked, we found the place.
