    Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
    'Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
    Poor old England to overthrow.
By God's providence he was catch'd,
With a dark lantern and burning match

Holloa boys, Holloa boys, let the bells ring
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, God save the King!

    Hip hip Hoorah !
    Hip hip Hoorah !

A penny loaf to feed ol'Pope,
A farthing cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar,'
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head,
Then we'll say: ol'Pope is dead.

Cheers ya pommie lot!
Happy Trails,
Brian Why

Did anyone watch the History Channel feature on Guy Fawkes.  9:00 pm 11 Dec 06.  The producers not only told the story, they had to outdo MYTHBUSTERS!

They built a replica of the 1605 version of the House of Lords on a military range, and stuffed the "undercroft" (basement) with 36  fifty pound barrels of gunpowder.  The quantity was determined by the actual inventory of the exhibit in the Tower of London.  That amount of Black powder was unavailable in England and had to be special ordered from a powder mill in Spain.

By coincidence, Guy Fawkes was an expert in the Spanish army in destoying fortifications by tunneling under them and blowing them up.

The conspirators got made when they took in one too many conspirators to raise money for extra powder, as Guy found some of his stash might have been water damaged.

They result of the blast was double the prediction of the experts.  Not only would the House of Lords have gone sky-high, so would everyone in it.  Historically, the prediction of its political effect would have been the reverse of what the conspirators hoped.  With 95% of the population already Protestant, the result would likly have been a pogrom against Catholoics, and a new Protestant King!
