Ho DD.  If ya can get hold of some .444 brass, they MIGHT work as is in yer .410.  I have a couple of .410s, and in the one, they work fine, in the other, the rim is a tad too thick (gun won't close) , so I trimmed the back side of the rims (a PIA job at best).  The shells get loaded just like 12 ga brass, no crimp, a dab of probond glue.  Honestly though, if ya have a loader for .410 and a source for fired hulls, plastic is probably easier.

Howdy Jack,

I have some 444 Marlin brass.  Just why, I can't recall, but I have some.  I'm thinkn' of workin' up a load for them that will work in my lil ugly single shot pistol.  The gun is chambered for 45 Colt/.410 2-1/2".  I think the brass shells would be great in it.  FWIW, it's the uglyist gun in the world, made from welded up flat steel with a big fat barrel.  It's called "Lil Canon".

For my Iver Johnson single tube .410, I'll stick with the plastic roll crimped loads.

Thanks,

Well, talking about .410s and other uses for them, I thought that I would pass on my latest smoke cannon.  I took my Bond derringer out to Comin' Atcha, English, Texas this past weekend.  I'm too slow to win anything with it but never pass up an opportunity to create some smoke.  Seems that I found some brass .410 shells.  Also located a .44 round ball mold, seems that you can't put a 45 slug in a .410 case and get it to chamber.  I found out that you can get a BUNCH of powder in that case and sit that round ball on top.  Better than that, it will chamber.  This is in a .410/45 barrel.  Made up a dozen or so rounds and handed it around after I had finished.

Talk about the mouse that roars........  Do you know that some guys will actually fire the second chamber after making wierd noises when the first chamber goes off?  And then question themselves of why they did it?

Sounds like the first shot settles the arguement and the second one nails the coffin. . .

Heap big ROAR!

BTW, Gene, now ya got me shootn' FCGF.  Yer a good influence.

Dick,
Did you use 2 1/2 or 3" shells?  Since I have a severe case of arthritis in my shoulder I had to give up my 12 gauge.  I might end up with a new joint, but things have settled down lately.  The folks at the club have been encouraging me to try a .410, but I would miss the smell of sulfur in the morning.  I've been pondering it and I'll probably try one before buying.  it would be interesting if enough BP would fit in a .444, because they are proud of the .410 shotshells.

I've been running 2.5" shells.  A new MEC 600 Jr. MK-V all set up for .410 2.5" shells followed me home.  I got 500 rounds of once fired Federal brass for cheep.  Justifyably cheep I'm thinkn'.

I carried the lil Canon but didn't get a shot at a partridge yet.  One more weekend to hunt.  Maybe tomorrow.

They sure do make plenty of smoke.  And, yes, the .444 brass works great.
