Shortening revolvers

  My friend shortened his Rogers and Spencer to 6 1/2". It looks so good I'm going to ask him to do my 8" Pietta and Santa Barbara 1858's.
Can any body advise on replacing the front sight??
Any help appreciated.....

Order one of the Uberti dovetailed front sights and have him put that one on. That way you can drift it for windage or replace it easily if it gets goobered. Scroll down to item number 15 using the link below. Don't get the target sight, that's a different one.

Remmies can be shortened to 6 3/4" withour resetting the rammer.  There is a picture of a real one, 5 shot .46 rf conversion in McDowell.

I cut one of my 1858 Pietta remmies down to 6 and 1/2 inch so i wouldn`t have to move the loading rammer stud ... Dixie Gun Works sells the smaller dovetail front sight like the ones on the Euro Arms remmies .. the dovetail joint is quite a bit larger on the Uberti . The smaller one made my Pietta shoot POA with out any fileing down the front sight at all . The remmie looked nice cut down a little ..and i ended up tradeing mine off in some tradeing .. the guy that got it , said it looked like a factory job on the shortening ..was glad to hear that . It shot very well too ..

Really two ways to do this.  One is to cut the muzzle end and replace the sight.  Other is to unscrew the barrel, cut the thread end and rethread for proper headspace.

  Thank you all for the responses. I am going to try to show you his Rogers and Spencer after he gets it done................. He shortened one of my 8" Piettas today.... I may not put a front sight back on it cause I like the way it looks without it.... Gonna shoot it tomorrow........
