I don't mind the RV's either, although you have a very distinct competetive advantage with them.

How's that?

Dang!
I reckon somebody needs to tell Will Kilya that so he will stop beatin' them Rooger shooters with his Colts!

Well, if ya own a Ruger....

Ya don't need a jack handle fer yer pickemup truck, so's I guess if ya got a flat tire on the way to the match and fergot yer jack handle, a Colt shooter would be sol but the Ruger dude would be OK.  Game, set, match.

Gents, I don't own a Ruger, wouldn't own one, I shoot Colts..3rd generation. But thats not to say Ruger doesn't make a good servicable firearm, cause they do!!!
Oh yeah, I have two Cimarrons too. I have never had one of my Colts or Cimarrons become unservicable on me and I shoot 50 rounds a month through each not counting CAS shoots. My preference for Colts goes way back... It was the first gun I shot when I was about 8 . My grandad had a Colt 45 thet he kept in the pick-em-up truck for coyotes and snakes. Shot my first jack rabbit with that six-gun when I was 9.
It has been a long love affair with me and Colts!
Still Ruger makes a fine pistol.

Manatee...

The difference between the Ruger shooter and the Colt shooter:

The Ruger shooter will use his revolver as a jack handle to raise his truck and change the tire

The COLT shooter just stands there, wearing his pistols... and traffic gets backed up by people wanting to give him a ride, change his tire for him, or genuflecting...  ;D

Borowed one of those RV from a dealer once and of to the range.
Printed fine on paper and gobbled every thing i feed it.
But could'nt put my finger on whats wrong? It dont feal right when handling.
So i visited a friend who got a Uberti 73 to compair them.
WOW :o so much larger than the clones, no wonder i hate it. ::)
So now i got me a pair of them clones for half the price of the RV
and they are so sweet. 8)

The Ruger is a workhorse, plain and simple.  It's like a Chevy truck.  You can beat the crap outta it day in and day out and it'll still show up for work the next day.  It may be a bit bigger than the Colt, but those of us with Size 42 Monster hands really appreciate the extra heft when you compare it to that lil Colt. ;)  Competitive advantage?  Only if the "competitor" practices.  The tool is no better than the operator at the controls.

Greetings Stump Water,

Was I was referring to is this:

When you shot Traditional, with both hands, like all the speedsters do and your holding the revolver in your strong hand with the trigger pulled and pulling the hammer back with your weak hand's thumb and slipping it off cycling the gun as fast as you can, the Ruger is new century technology and will hold up to the punishment.

While Colt's and Colt clones were build with 1800's  technology and won't take the punishment.

Colt's and Colt clones are better suited for duelist and gunfighter style.

I don't own RV's I shoot with Uberti Cattlemen.  I have nothing against Ruger guns, they are great, dependable and the strongest action out there.

Don't have a problem with them being in CAS either.  The RV's at least have the right flavor.  So does the Henry, but let's not open that kettle of worms up over here.  But hey, I got rubber tires on my gun cart too! :o

Now this is opinion, and anything you say here will be argued with, but it's still my opinion.. :)

Michael I have Rugers, Ubertis, Hawes, Colts and a S&W Schofield.
The Ubertis stand up to the hammering I give them  as well as the Rugers do. The Hawes maybe better than the Rugers.
I'm not going to hammer the first gen Colt like that because I have more respect for it.

The AWA's stood up well until the 20th century cylinder metal gave out.

Howdy,

It's an interesting opportunity to examine this bit of commonly accepted wisdom.  I, myself, regularly advise newbies to buy Rugers as they are more "trouble-free."

But, as I thought and pondered about this thread, I realized that my son shoots Thunderers, traditional style.  And if that hammer-thumbed kid could break them, he would.. ;)  then I realized that Kettleman shoots Cimarrons, Travelin' shoots USFAs and really, quite a few of our faster shooters shoot Colt clones and I'm sure that they put the guns to the test.  Sure, maybe the very top shooters use Rugers in a much higher average, but at the local level there are a bunch of fast shooters that shoot just about everything.. might be fodder for some kind of poll.

Adios,

Standpat Steve

Howdy,

I have Colts, Cimarrons, and Rugers. I shoot CAS with the Cimarrons because I can afford to wear them out (although other than replacing a few parts, I haven't) and like the way they feel/handle better than the Rugers. I like to think of Rugers as the International Harvesters of the single action world-a little bulky but cared for they will probably outlast us all! Rugers are a good value for the money and can be shot as well as any Colt or Clone-just ask Choctaw or Tequila. Actually, with the addition of a half-cock notch, I could shoot them and be happy. Until you are really good and little subtleties come into play, it probably makes more difference as to which one you grew up shooting, or the size of your hand as to which one you like best. (But I bet they do make good jack handles ;)).

I'm shooting EAA's, Cimarrons, and one RV. personally, I'm more partial to them than the RV. Again that's just personal preference. I usually shoot duelist and I guess hand size has something to do with it. a lot of our fast guys are using them, but if you look at ER, he's using Cimarron's and so are Holy Terror and Wicked Felina.. They put on schools and practice quite a bit too. Lots of rounds put down range and according to ER, they are holding up. Now, the ER models are a little better prepared than a standard Model P, but it's still that old Colt action. Seems to me it's the preparation of the tool, not just the design. I kinda like Nate Kiowa Jones description of it. You can race the family sedan in Nascar, but how long will it hold up? A car prepared for racing will hold up much better to the stress. I have no problem with those that choose the RV's, they're good guns................Buck 8) ::) :o ;D
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

It's all good! I shoot a brace of RV's, Clones, Schofields, and RM Conversions which ever appeals to me that day. It all boils down to the cowboy behind the gun. The statement that "RV's just don't fit my hand" has always left me scratching my head, but then again I do have hands like a man and not a woman. ;)

Sorry Pards I couldn't resist, you can put the rope down now. ;D

The real Ruger advantage is that you can buy 3 Rugers for every Colt and when that day comes that you win the lottery AND your Ruger breaks down, you've got a spare RV to use.  :) :) ;)

I own 4 Ruger Vaqueros, 3 genuine Colts and a dozen clones, (Colt clones, Remington clones and a Navy Arms Schofield).  All are big bores.  I have one Colt clone in 38-40, a pair in 44-40 and all the rest are cal. 45 Colt.  I have larger than average hands so all of them feel good to me.  I actually shoot all of them on a regular basis, but when I know I'm going to sling lots of lead it's usually the Vaqueros that end up being shot.  They're bigger, stronger, probably won't break and if they do Ruger will fix 'em for free.

Maybe you should get to know COLT'S view on future citizen ownership of Colt's before you support them over Ruger.
Pretty sad state of affairs at Colt. Also don't be suprised if the majority of the parts on your Colt are now made over sea's and merely blued and polished by Colt.
Check it out for yourself, I did.

I own Colts and love em but, they are what they are.
