GG,

I don't have a Cap special, but I do have one of the '06 production 5XX.  Had a similar problem and looked into a couple of cures.
1)  added a touch of padding under my lever wrap which also helped with my bloody fingers
2) Shot the snot out of it.  I used it for 3-4 months 2 matches a month and practiced using snap caps a couple times a week.  THis really seemed to help, because I got used to the longer lever throw.  If that still doesn't work, maybe look at shortening the stock a hair, you'd be suprised at what 1/2" may do.

These worked for me, and I love my '87 to even think about getting rid of my other '97 and getting a second one ;D

Everytime I use mine it gets easier to use.............. in a year or two I may master it.

Cap set these guns up for Winchester Feather lites.  My pard Plowboy and I both had extraction problems with Federal cheapshots (what ever they call them), you know the generic dove and quail loads.  The aluminium bases were probably too thick for the extractors.  Last month was our Yearly Match and I shot BP in Remington green (and gold)  SST hulls, everything worked just fine.  I think that the aluminium bases have to be thicker to keep them from tearing, brass seems to work well.

Mine, (#100), works just fine with two different brands of ammo, I haven't tried any others.  I prefer the SSTs cause of their knock down potential.  Feather lites are ok, but I find the recoil helps work the leaver better, kinda like on a pumper. All in all I really like the '87, my other CAS shotgun is a Browning BSS, I have 1/2 dozen '97 winchesters but I like the "87 better than any of them.  This is just my opinion and as such is just so much gas, but I would stick with brass based shells.

That is all I think I know.

My '06 model CC '87 runs fine with either AA's or STS's as long as I do my part. You have to run it like you stole though. Drive it like a rental car.  ;D
