Not sure where to ask this but,

I am usually very careful when reloading but today I think I made a mistake.
I didn't check my load data.

Loaded
50 rounds of .45 COLT with:
250 gr LRNFP - 5.0 gr IMR Trail Boss

50 rounds of .45 COLT with:
250 gr LRNFP - 5.5 gr IMR Trail Boss

On the IMR web site they list a 4.5 gr max load.
I am hoping they are on the the lite side for legal reasons.
Will be shot out of a Colt clone (UBERTI).
I am prepared to pull them all.
What do you think ?

As I was once told by a good friend and long time reloader.  "When in doubt throw it out"  Better to be safe then sorry.

Yer NOT gonna hurt the gun.  If ya look on the IMR website under HANDGUN data, with a 250 in .45 Colt, the max is 5.8 grains at 12,700 PSI (safe in any gun).  The 4.5 grains is a MINIMUM load.

will 5.5 grain load will run about 700 fps and not be bad at all.

You know, it kinda deponds on the gun --- BUT  --- Heres the stuff from the IMR page
www.imrpowder.com

for a 250 gr cast slug ---

4.5 grains   606 Fps    8,800 PSI

5.8 grains   727 Fps   12,700 PSI

Read the data and work up.  I always thought the data was on the light side BUT IMR has to be careful.

Mike

PS:  I always thought these loads were a little weak but I shoot a Ruger !!

Thanks for the replies.
I rechecked the IMR load data and saw that I missed the max load of 5.8 gr.
I'm much better now.

I've been loading 5.6 in my wifes  loads and they do fine.  Pretty hard to overload Trailboss, at least that's is what I have read.

I'm at 5.8 with a 200. As long as you're w ithin published data, you should be just fine.....Buck 8) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Not to quibble, but 12,700 PSI is safe in ANY .45 in good order, period.
