The Racine County Line Range is home to a great bunch of shooters.  They tought me a thing or three about getting 500 grain chunks of lead to hit paper at 600 yards.  A pard, named John, took me under his wing and helped me get on paper.  Thanks John N.

I shot two relays and  scored about 50% better in the second one than I did in the first.  Yes, I cut paper.  Yes, I got some in the black.  Yes, my shoulder hurts.  Yes, I'm a happy shooter.

The end of this month there's a shoot that gets out as far as 1200 yards.  It'll be fun to see how the DD-45-70-500 boolits find paper out that far.  I'll take notes and report back.

In the meantime, I've met a great group of pards that shoot slow, long and accurate.  They grin a lot.

Ho DD,

Yes indeed. Shooting at longer ranges is, like "A whole new adventure", and a fuunnn one at that!  Glad to hear that you gave it a go and have stepped in the pool.

Best of luck at your upcoming challange at 1000-1200 yards.

Fuunnn continued!!

Is this the range by the Chicago and Northwestern railroad?  I spent the first twenty-one years of my life in Racine.  Still have family back there.  Been up Hwy 32 many a time, but never noticed the range road.  Didn't get into shooting until after I moved to California.  Now permanently ensconced in Nevada!

Yup Russ T,

It's just off 7 mile road.  Ya turn left immediately after crossing the tracks.  I think there were at least Five tracks.  Then, ya go North about a quarter of a mile and turn right into the club.  It took me a while to find the place.  I think they should give out a prize for newcomers, like myself, that found it without having to stop to ask for directions. . .

Howdy w44wcf,

I've shot a fur piece before.  But, these guys know what they are doin'.  Most were usin' duplex loads.  I wouldn't do that.  I explained that I'm a Cowboy and SASS don't allow no duplex loads.

By the time the match was done I had some curious shooters askin' howcome I didn't have to clean my gun between relays.  I grinned and told the "big lube" story.....
