Does any SSS member know anything about case trim dies that an individual can use to cut down 50-70 brass?  Please respond and thank you.

   Greetings!

When I began reloading for the Romano, I used a Trim-To die set from C&H/4D. It worked fine, but personally I wish I'd had an appropriately sized case trimmer and a tubing cutter.
After running the case into the trim-to die, I would saw off the protruding brass "flush" with the top of the die, finishing off with a fine file. I then would remove the brass "flash" from the inside of the case mouth, as well as clean up the outside of the case mouth. Get the larger sized deburrung tool for this job!
To get around this hassle, I bought one of Lyman's Universal Trimmers {Get the powered one!!!}, a truly great trimmer. When I bought it, I was assured that it would accept .50 Govt rims... Until it arrived, and I discovered otherwise. Well... They fit, if you don't mind taking a few minutes "jockeying" them into the jaws of the Universal shell holder! Lyman may have corrected this, but check first!
To trim .50 Govt for the ArmiSport, you'll probably have to reduce the rim diameter, and perhaps the web area of the head of the brass.

Let me know if I can provide any more details!

                         Be Well!

   Greetings!, Hoot 3rd-Ga!

I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply! I cannot yet find my receipt for the File Trim Die... But, I'm still looking. You may want to visit www.ch4d.com in the interim. I believe that I still have it...

                Sorry For Delay!

I Trim 50 70 brass on a lathe.
I made a plug to go inside of the case and I chuck the mouth of the case against the plug.  I set the tailstock against the head of the case to maintain the correct case length and cut the case off with the cutoff tool.  I have made a jig to hold the case
from the outside by boring a tapered hole into a short aluminum bar which is s snug fit to the case.  I drive the case into the hole with a hammer and and chuck the jig with the case head sticking out.  I turn the rim and thin it from the mouth side to avoid reducing primer depth.  I then place a screw in the jig and tighten it against the case head to keep the case from backing out of the jig.  I turn the jig around in the chuck so the mouth protrudes and I ream it with a 33/64 reamer in the tailstock.
Anneal and load.

   Greetings, Hoot-3rd GA!

I've decided to hang on to the file-trim 56-50 set because I still periodically use the reamer when I do case-forming, and I'd just as soon keep the set a Set. I hope that I haven't "strung you on" in making this decision, but I do like to experiment with different brass, and the set does come in handy in that respect.
I do still encourage you to look into a .50 Caliber compatible case trimmer with a power adapter; with an electric drill, it's an extremely fast and clean job.

              Be Well!

Unless you are overloaded with an abundance of 50-70 brass, it does not make any sense to try to make them work in the Taylor's 56-50.  The initial cost of the 50-70 brass is as much as proper cases and the labor invested to make them work is quite a bit.
The Starline cases for the Taylor's 56-50 are cheaper than 50-70 brass the last time I looked, and are available from Midway, Buffalo Arms, and other sources in small lots.  If you want a bunch of them, get the quantity from Starline.
